Missouri Pacific

The Missouri Pacific or the MOP as it was know, could be found all over the New Orleans area including the Southern Oliver yard and the L&N Gentilly yard in New Orleans East. The MP also had a yard at Race St at the site of the present day convention center downtown.

The MOP transfer run from the L&N os seen here on Feb 17, 1983 waiting for a crew to come over from the MP to take the train west over the Huey and onto the Avondale yard. Shrewsbury Rd off of Jefferson Hwy was the crew change point for the MP and L&N for this run.

This southbound Operation Lifesaver is passing Ama Jct in Luling, LA on this beautiful February 7, 1984 day headed for NOUPT. Ama Jct is located on Monsanto chemical plants property and back in those days as long as the camera pointed towards the tracks no one said anything. I wouldn't try it today though.

A trio of MP power seen at the west end of Avondale (LA) MP yard back on November 27, 1981 is actually getting ready to push a train over the Huey P. Long bridge as evident with the caboose ahead of the last engine. This was a very common practice back in the early to mid 80's.
