Amite Volunteer Fire Department

Amite is located in Tangipahoa Parish (county), north of Hammond, LA and off of I-55. The community consists mainly of rural and farm property. The main station is located in the center part of the downtown area, across from the railroad tracks.


Ladder 1 (L1) is a 1993 Pierce Dash telesqurt with a 50' boom.

A 1999 Ferrara/GMC serves as Engine 2 (E2) for the department.

Backup engine, Engine 7, is a 1988 Ford F700 and is one of the oldest pieces with the department.

Because of the interstate and US 51, the department operates this 2000 Ferrara/GMC rescue.

Tanker 1 (T1) is a 1984 Mack with a capacity of 2500 gallons of water. This tanker is invaluable in the rural areas surrounding the town. The tanker is nicknamed "Big Bird" because of the color and size.
