19 Stations - Baton Rouge Fire Department

The Baton Rouge Fire Department protects the state of Louisiana's capitol city with 19 fire stations scattered about throughout the Baton Rouge area. Ferrara is the only apparatus supplier in the fleet of interesting equipment. A couple of HME pumpers built by Ferrara are also present and are preferred by the operators.

This 1979 American LaFrance 75' straight stick ladder is a reserve piece filling in at the main station the day I visited.

The only non-Ferrara piece I found with Baton Rouge FD was this Ford Expedition. Its used by the chief.

Well I missed shooting the rear of another "pusher". Like the HazMat truck from Oklahoma City, this Ferrara is built like a bus with the engine in the rear and a large grill for engine cooling on the rear. Once loaded with equipment and supplies, quite a bit of weight had to be added to the front end of this HazMat vehicle due to the very light front end steer. Dips in the road would lift the front wheels off the ground.

HME supplied the body and chassie to Ferrara for this very attractive 1996 pumper.

This is the first time I have seen a monster of a Freightliner like this. This straight stick ladder is a 1999 Ferrara/FL with a 109' RK ladder. The rear set of wheels tag or steer the opposite direction in a turn under 15 mph. It is one of several used by the city of Baton Rouge FD.

Probably the only red fire department piece with the Baton Rouge FD is this 1998 Ferrara/FL rescue. Its assigned to the downtown central station.
