Station __ - David Crockett VFC

If you like old Macks you need to visit Gretna, LA and in particular the David Crockett Volunteer Fire Company. Their main station is located on Lafayette St and the West Bank Expressway, next door to the Harley Davidson dealership in Gretna, LA. I do not know the history of David Crockett VFC, but they claim to be the oldest "continuous" volunteer fire company in the United States. I have also heard the claim from Mt. Holly (NJ) that they are the oldest volunteer fire company in the USA. Mt. Holley does not include the word "continuous" in their claim, so perhaps Mt. Holly was founded earlier, but disbanded for various reasons then reformed at later dates?? Harvey, New Orleans, and Gould fire departments boarder David Crockett VFC.

C-1 with the David Crockett Volunteer Fire Company is a 1973 Mack CF.

This 1968 Mack CF, as well as the rest of the equipment with David Crockett, is in excellent condition and well maintained.

I believe this is classified as a hose truck. Its a 2001 Ferrara/International.

The rear view of C-8 shows the large soft supply hose reel. Many of the older companies carry a large supply hose reel on the back of a flatbed pickup making this Ferrara a cut above all the rest. Very nice rig.

A 1985 Grummen/Aerocat ladder has been replaced, but is still in reserve. It has a 102' ladder making it one of the largest around the area.

David Crockett's newest ladder is this 2001 Ferrara/RK ladder with a 104' ladder. Both ladder trucks are kept off of Stumpf Blvd near the West Bank Expressway.
