City of Wilmington Fire Department

The city of Wilmington, Delaware is the only city in the state that has a full-time, paid fire department. Apparatus of choice is KME and a couple of Pierce can also be found. A number of stations are scattered throughout the city limits, with volunteer companies covering the suburbs.


Even a Wilmington fire department fire boat, the "Firefighter", got into the act at the 80th Anniversary celebration in Wilmington, DE a couple of weeks ago during the fire department muster held at the riverfront.

This beautiful 1998 KME tiller is operated by the city of Wilmington, Delaware Fire Department and is the only full-time paid fire department in the state of Delaware. Check out their pumpers and rescue on the applicable pages.

Restored by members and retirees of the Wilmington Fire Department in Wilmington, Delaware, this 1954 Mack B-Model is back to its original condition when it was in front line service back in the 50's. It is seen here at the fire departments 80th Anniversary parade (2001) in Wilmington, DE.

This 1992 Pierce Lance provided my ride along with the Wilmington, DE Fire Department. There is nothing like blasting across a large city on the way to a emergency call. Congradulations on your 80th anniversary guys.
