Almost immediately after the formation of the Krewe, a small band of Merry Makers were set apart from the crowd. These men were the very first Royal Dukes of Triton. The first group gathered together at lunch the day of the ball and toasted their King and one another. From this, a tradition was born. For the next twelve years, Merry Men who had previously been Dukes of Triton gathered at lunch the day of the Ball to toast and initiate the incoming class of Dukes.
The Dukes now sponsor gatherings for an election of officers (usually a crawfish boil, YUM), the annual Dukes Night Party, the Annual New Dukes Initiation (no longer the same day as the ball), as well as various functions like casino trips for the krewe, golf/tennis tournaments, and different holiday celebrations. Additionally, the Dukes organize the squads of Merry Men for the Krewe's annual parade.
The Dukes Club is an important part of our Krewe. While our board of directors is busy doing the business of running the krewe, the Dukes sole purpose is to make sure the Krewe has fun year round. To be a Merry Duke of Triton, all any member must do is be presented as a Duke on the Royal Court and then continue with a small fee annually. Many Krewe leaders come from the ranks of the Dukes Club and we salute the club's efforts in bring fun to all.
The Dukes held their annual Dukes night party on January 20th. The party was great! The new Dukes were honored, Danny Killeen was crowned the King of Albertson's and we even had a surprise visit by Elvis! Pictures coming soon!
