Biography of Booth

John Wilkes Booth, the man who assassinated Abraham Lincoln, was born into a large family of ten children on a farm in Bel Air, Maryland. During his teenage years and into his early twenties, he worked as an actor for a Shakespearian company performing the famous play, "Richard III." After working as an actor for awhile, Booth became interested in politics and became an active member in the Know-Nothing party, which was a group that desperately tried to reduce the large number of immigrants arriving in the United States everyday. When Booth became aware of Abraham Lincoln's views, he began to formulate a plan to abduct him. After Booth's first two plans of kidnapping President Lincoln failed, Booth, then came up with a plan to assassinate President Lincoln. Booth found out that President Lincoln and the First Lady were going to a performance at Ford's Theatre.
