Hospital: Swedish Medical Center

..Anne Marie Hochhalter, 17 years old, was transferred to [another] Hospital from Swedish Medical Center's Multi Trauma Unit to begin rehabilitation for injuries she sustained in the Columbine High School shooting of April 20th. Anne Marie sustained multiple life-threatening injuries as well as a spinal cord injury at the T-12 level around the area of her waist. According to Tom Balazy, M.D. of the Swedish Multi Trauma Unit, "Anne Marie has had a very complicated medical course since her injury, and is a very brave young woman". According to Anne Marie's parents Ted and Carla.

Anne Marie's statement:

"To all the people who have cared about me from the day I was hurt:

I am leaving [the] Hospital today and didn't want to have a press conference, but wanted to write my own press release. I have wanted to be private during my recovery, and I appreciate the media's respect for my wishes.

I have many thanks to share. First, I wish to thank my family who has loved and supported me all through my recovery. I would like to thank the paramedics and staff at Swedish Medical Center who saved my life. I want to thank the [the] Hospital staff who taught me the skills to be independent again. I want to thank my many friends who have visited me and cared about my well-being from the very beginning.

Thanks also to the families who have brought meals to my family every night, and to all the caring people across the country who prayed for me, and who sent wonderful gifts and cards. They meant a lot to me. Your loving care and support have helped me tremendously to get through my recovery.

I still have many obstacles to overcome, but I know that I can do it, and God will give me strength along the way.

Once again, I give my thanks to all of you."

..Sean Graves, 15 ½ years old, Multi-trauma Unit. Four gunshot wounds-one in back and three in the abdomen. Fair and stable condition, movement and feeling has returned to his left foot. Sean has begun intensive therapy in the spinal cord injury program.

His injury has been termed an "incomplete," meaning he is paralyzed below the level of the wound but has some feeling and movement. Sean's doctors said his long-term prognosis is unknown.

Sean and his family wanted to update the community and nation on his condition and progress since his admission to [another] Hospital on May 4th from Swedish Medical Center.

According to Sean's doctors he sustained multiple gun shot wounds, including a serious wound that has resulted in an incomplete spinal cord injury around the area of his waist. "Incomplete" means that Sean is paralyzed below the level of the wound, with some feeling and movement at this time. Sean is currently using a wheelchair for mobility. Sean has begun intensive rehabilitation therapy in the spinal cord injury rehabilitation program at [the hospital], and he still fatigues easily. Sean's long term prognosis is unknown at this time, and his projected length of treatment at [the hospital] has not yet been decided. Doctors and therapists remain hopeful about his progress.

The Graves family have continued to ask that there be no media coverage or individual interviews until further notice. They would like to periodically provide information about Sean's condition and progress, but want to maintain their privacy.

Strict visiting hours and incoming phone call screening are being enforced at the family's request so that Sean and the family can focus on Sean's therapy. Visitation hours are 7-9 pm Tuesdays and Thursdays, and Saturdays and Sundays from 1-4 pm, and visitors should come to the main hospital switchboard. Even during these times, patients may not be available to receive visitors, depending on how Sean is feeling.

Sean has since been released.
