Taking a quick look at the clock face, she knew she hadn’t got much time to spare. She had to fetch Sylvester Sim at the airport. Auntie Florence wasn’t free to do that and this silly boy’s lousy memory had long-forgotten the way to her house.
“Piece of crap.” she grumbled with annoyance, swinging her legs off the bed. It was awfully terrible having to wake up early in a Sunday morning just to fetch that cry-baby from the airport. Tiredly, dragged her feet towards the bathroom, closing her eyes. Big mistake. On the way out of her room, she slammed her toe against the side of her bed. After a yell of pain, she began to curse, yelling that vulgar four-letter word. Hoping on one foot, she resembled a deranged Energizer Bunny.
Bad morning. Sure enough, she knew the rest of her day would be bad as well. Perhaps, from today onwards, the world would collapse upside down. Sylvester was coming here to stay. Not for a vacation. But for good. Her life would change.
With that dumb head in the whole house, things wouldn’t be any better.

Holding in front of her a big paper that wrote ‘Mr Sylvester Sim’, ’s eyes trailed around the waiting area of the airport. Dammit, she gave the impression of an obtuse moron. Holding onto that paper with Sylvester’s name seemed to possess inexplicable powers that sank her in a deep state of embarrassment. She swore the first thing she would do later on would be to burn that darn thing. No choice though, that was the only way for Sylvester to recognize her. Since 12 years ago when he had flew back to United States, the duo hadn’t been in contact. doubted she would recognize him later on.
Taking a glance at her watch, she wondered heavily at the damn thing that was keeping him. By right, his plane had arrived several minutes ago. Her patience was getting out of the way. To , waiting was the worst part in life. More ever, waiting for that silly kid was similar to waiting for frustration to wedge its way in.
’s lips twisted with impatience as she surveyed the large throng of people striding out of the custom gate. Her tiresome mind was awakened by a slight jolt when she noticed a guy pushing his trolley of luggage, making his way towards her direction with a blur look. His eyes seemed to be fixed at the paper in front of her.
That guy was walking slowly, looking confident. His stylish hair was a tousled mixture of black and bark brown which was messy in a neatly order. His chinos were cuffed, and his preppy blue jacket flapped a little as he walked. You didn’t find people who looked like that… as in, stunningly, astonishingly good. Well, he wasn’t those gorgeous hunks with killer looks but on the whole, he was attractive in his own way. He possessed a gene known as the X factor.
knitted her eyebrows as his face drew near. Don’t tell me this Mr. Cool is him… that electrifying thought blew her mind. Stop thinking odds! She ordered herself. That guy halted when he had reached ’s side.
“Are you the one who’s suppose to fetch me?” that guy sounded like an idiot when he asked this question. “I’m Sylvester.” he smiled politely. Now, he looked more like an idiot.
“Can’t you see your name on the paper?” ’s unfriendly stare darted down at the words ‘Sylvester Sim’ which she was holding onto. Then, she tossed him another weird glare as though he was born with an extra nose.
“Oh.” he broke into an awkward laughter, scratching his head. “Er.. So now…” Before he could even finish, had already swiveled around, stalking towards the exit.
“Hey! Wait for me!” he called out, stumbled over by her attitude. She looked pretty and young, should be around his age. But with her rotten attitude, it was hard breaking the ice with her. Leaving with no choice, he pushed his trolley, rushing to catch up with before she disappeared within his sight.

“You must be . Am I right?” Sylvester managed to snapped off the silence between them. They duo were now in the cab, on their way to the mansion. tore off her gaze from the window and turned to look at him.
“How did you know?” she interrogated, raising one of her eyebrows. She wasn’t afraid to give him a good once-over.
“Your attitude gives me the answer.” he explained. “And Auntie Florence told me you might be the one fetching me if she wasn’t free to.” didn’t reply. She glanced away from him, fixing her eyes at the car window.
God, Sylvester sure had changed. Changed completely. He was almost unrecognizable. From that thin, bony boy that looked like a malnutrition, he was now much good-looking though still skinny. He didn’t seem like that timid, shy boy. He appeared to be more sociable and open. pondered at the ‘miracle’ that might had took place in his life these 12 years. Not to what she had predicted, this boy who used to be introverted and quiet was still talking. To be truth, she wasn’t really listening.
“And you know what…” Sylvester continued with anticipation. “I’m so glad about coming back here again. Singapore, its after all my homeland. I miss the chicken rice here.” a smug grin flickered over his face.
“Hey.. You okay?” he asked when he caught that uninterested look on her face. But hyper fervor Sylvester was too dim-witted to catch the message. “Are you sick? Need a doctor?” he asked, bringing his face near her.
Now she was fuming. “This is not what sick looks like.” grunted with displeasure, “This is what annoyed looks like. And no. I don’t need a doctor. Thank you.”
It was the rudest, least gracious “Thank you” Sylvester ever heard. “Suits you then.” he replied nonchalantly, trying not to laugh at her. “So, care to take me around the town later on? I’ve a poor sense of direction.”
“Not free.” she grumbled, unable to believe that he was prolonging the conversation. Couldn’t he see the imaginary word ‘explosive object’ written over her forehead? This Sylvester Sim was obviously a big-time nuisance.
“Come on..” he urged, “I’ve already forgotten the past. How you treat me 12 years ago is no longer important. I harbor no hard feelings for that.” He was sincere and serious when he made his statement. In fact, Sylvester wasn’t that kind to bear grudges.
“I’m so blessed.” chucked him an extra snarl. “Now better shut up! I need peace.”
Sylvester smiled and shook his head. This girl.. Still the same old character. Miss Bad Attitude . He couldn’t explain why, exactly. She doesn’t give him a feeling that she welcomes questions. She seemed kind of haunted.
Yet at the same time, she was interesting. Different from other girls he had met.
“By the way , you can call me Sly.” he grinned.
“Anything.” rolled her eyes.
