..* True To My Heart..

:: Chp 20: By Your Side ::

Spread on her table was the half-completed jigsaw puzzle and a box of its other little pieces. was determined not to sleep tonight. She would attach the remaining pieces together and complete the puzzle for him. Before the crack of dawn, she was going to make sure all 1000 pieces were pieced together. And hopefully by then, Sylvester would have waken up.

With the study lamp as her only source of light, sat down at her desk and started sorting out the pieces. Being in love is what makes anything possible. Because loves Sylvester, she would cast her impatience aside and took on the challenge of finishing a jigsaw puzzle for the first time.

Throughout the night she was accompanied by countless yawns, but her determination never ceased. She continued despite her fatigue mind and droopy eyes. She hoped Sylvester wouldn’t give up and wake up soon. She was waiting for him. And she would continue waiting…

:::::

There was a lingering whole-body soreness in ’s muscles as she trudged tiredly along the corridor of the hospital the next day. Staying up the whole night and sitting at the same posture had ached her back. But all were after all worthwhile. She managed to complete the puzzle and had even framed it up.

Holding onto the framed-up puzzle beside her, entered the room. Another haze of disenchantment set in. Sylvester’s eyes were still stubbornly shut. Her heart sank once again. She could no longer tolerate being alone. She felt abandoned.

Sitting down beside the bed, took Sylvester’s hand and bring it close to her face. Tears fell silently and another wave of despair added to her unease. “Come on.. Wake up..” she muttered softly, losing hope. “See, I have already completed the puzzle.” she held the puzzle up at his emotionless face. “I have understand everything. I have known everything. Wake up please.”

No response. More tears slid down her cheeks as she dropped the puzzle onto the floor. had already hit the peak of a mountain and she could no longer endure this dreadful agony. She needed him. Badly. She felt like she had failed an important mission.

It was difficult fighting back those devastating emotions. She rested her head on his chest and cried noiselessly. “Sorry” was the only word she could mumble.

Ever since she was a little kid, was used to being the butt of many jokes. She was accustomed to being alone with no friends. But all of a sudden, loneliness seemed like a daunting world to enter.

I’m sorry..” she sniveled between sobs. “Wake up please.. I need you.” The thought of losing someone she loves instilled fears in her heart. Feeling bleak, she continued weeping, hugging onto Sylvester.

“You’re so noisy.” a soft raspy voice remarked out of a sudden. That piece of voice was so familiar almost couldn’t believe it. Her distraught mind and body snapped back into one piece.

Her head jerked up sharply and to her realization, Sylvester had his tired eyes half-opened. He had regained conscious without her noticing. ’s jaw dropped, staggered. Is this for real? That happy yet unbelievable feelings was so hard to digest she bit her tongue to make sure this wasn’t a dream.

“I…” she uttered in a daze. Sylvester was too weak to talk. So he flashed her a smile. A feeble yet heart-warming one. At once, she knew this wasn’t a dream. This was for real. Her heavy heart rippled with relief.

God, to Sylvester, looked so pale and haggard. That swollen puffy eyes of hers apparently divulged how much she must had suffered all these while. That set his heart breaking. “You’re so noisy that you woke me up.” he mumbled with a drowsy grin on his face.

“I…” her voice trailed off, failing to find the right words. was immensely grateful he had finally woke up. There was nothing much she could ask for. “Thanks for waking up.” she whispered.

“Have you been crying?” he asked, noticing tears in her eyes.

“No!” she retorted bluntly and turned away from him at once. Embarrassment swept in and she quickly wiped off her tears before facing him again. “Its just the dust.” she lied.

“Yeah right.” Even in the state of exhaustion and injury, Sylvester was still playing the joker. “I suppose there’s lots of dust here. Isn’t it?” he commented sarcastically, rolling his eyes.

“Whatever.” looked away from him. She wasn’t in the least mood to be angry. Indeed, she was thankful that he woke up and he could be all childish and cheeky for all she cared. She wouldn’t flare up at him or spit at his face. She would be nice to him for the moment. But only for today.

“I thought you would never wake up.” she said with trace of sadness.

“I’m okay now. How can I let anything happen to me when I haven’t win the heart of that someone special?” he beamed faintly, sitting up with her help.

There was close contact between them and their eyes met. felt electrified. “I … I will go get a towel to wipe your face.” she changed the topic awkwardly as she rose from her seat. “Do you need anything? I will get it for you.”

Quickly, Sylvester stretched out his hand and held onto her wrist. He was somewhat afraid of losing her. “I want nothing. Just sit down beside me.” he requested, making her sat back onto the chair.

broke into a faint smile, comforted by his words. In her eyes he become someone she could believe in and rely on. With him around, even the imperfect becomes perfect.

.” Sylvester began. He took her hand and held it close to his heart. For once, his face turned serious, meaning it was no joke. “Can you feel my heart beating?” he asked, locking her eyes with his affectionate gaze. “I was so afraid I couldn’t see you anymore. During the coma, I could hear you talk to me. I could hear you cry and I could feel your presence almost every time. I struggled to wake up because I didn’t want to break a heart I treasure. I’d be lost without you.”

’s jolted with nervousness as her hand felt his warmth. That warmth she missed. Nevertheless, sugary sweetness managed to find a way and slipped into her heart.

“I was so worried I would never get a chance to say those words to you.” he continued as regret filled in. “Now I know if I love someone, I must cherish it in case tomorrow never comes. , I love you.” The last three words was so dreamlike it simply took ’s breath away.

Finally, she heard him said those words. It was so beautiful than any ballads she heard before. Love is sweet. Love is wonderful. Love is great. She definitely must have faith in him. She knew Sylvester was someone she would never meet a second time.

“I trust you.” she said, thankful for all he had done for her.

That was the greatest moment Sylvester ever had in his whole life. Gently, he cupped her face and brushed off those tears on her face. “ I promise I would never make you cry again.” he assured. Time stopped beautifully and in each other’s eyes all they could see was a blissful love.

He tilted his head and leaned in closer. closed her eyes.

Their lips met.
