UMBC Projected Planning of Growth 2008-2018

The Talking Heads song I referred to is here.

Yes, I am a "little freaked out." You never know if you are making the right decision but staying at Drexel was similar to beating my head against a wall: a five year waste of time and a $50k waste of money that wasn't even mine to begin with (Student Loans.) Constantly moving from place to place is stressful. Every new place has new affordances and losses and it is always difficult to fully evaluate what one is gaining and what one is loosing. Little did I know this process was not going to be as smooth as I thought. In July 2000, my girlfriend asked me to leave. she had made a series of bad decisions because unknown to both of us she was suffering from Bi-polar Depression and in no financial position to do what she was doing. By August I was out on my own and had to figure things out for myself.

In the end, the whole experience became what Shipka referred to as the "Rocky" narrative or "Against All Odds I will Succeed." I never regretted going to UMBC. Even with everything I had to go through in order to survive without a hand out, I managed to accomplish what I set out to do: obtain two degree although they were NOT the degrees I intended to obtain when I first entered.
