At the Weekly Retriever we are operating a weekly newspaper. Each week we meet together for a few minutes while the Editor in Chief offers praise on things done well and tosses out a public ass ream for things done wrong. We then break off into our individual groups, receive our assignments, and then turn in time sheets. We're not socializing, we are working. Maybe others socialize because their jobs are different. My job is on the beat so I don't stick around. I just get my assignment, go back out, and start tracking down people to interview. When I have all the data I need, I sit down and write a news article in the best of the King's English so as to not make my copy editor crazy. Although it's not my job, I form a rough headline so the copy editor has an idea of how I am pitching the news written below. Not much socializing here. We're learning how to function working for a newspaper.
