No one knew what I was working on. i can't remember who else was in the Writing Center when Elizabeth stormed in. She was frustrated. Books slammed the table top. Out of anger and frustration she blurted, "We should start an 'Anti-Apathy Club!'" When a tree falls in a forest does it make a sound? Only if there is a living thing there to hear it. Well we heard it alright. There were no appropriate words to respond with. Year after year I had been through it: Farmingdale, Nassau Community, Drexel, Micro Center, Lancaster Vocational, Harrisburg Community, and now... UMBC! APATHY! Why? Because there is just a huge disconnect at a commuter school. Everyone has a network of friends outside of the university and the university friends don't fit in with that circle, or so we think; therefore, because we choose to isolate, we create our own suffering in apathy. Is it Elizabeth? Is it me? Okay that's two who sense it. I could see my reason as being almost two generations estranged, but Elizabeth? How much further does this extend? Now I have my thesis of what to prove or disprove.
