I pull out a binder of business cards I have kept since I was about eighteen. Here I find tremendous variance. Companies I worked for, places I frequented for goods and services, people I have known, universities I attended, among other types of cards.

The problem is I am still not getting it through my thick head that the task is to re-contextualize the data/information: pull the information out of its original context/meaning-making/communication and insert the information into an entirely new communication thereby doing completely different work than what was originally intended by the nameless author of the text. I am still thinking in terms of cataloging and not re-contextualizing. I don't realize yet that I am missing the point of the communication objective.
