This is an example of what Steven's Manga samples looked like.Compare this image to the image in fig 3 in this narrative-sketch. the artwork is similar and the same expressiveness of emotions in the characters faces but note the heavy use of text in "this" Americanized sample. Some of the Americanized Mangas have even more text as though Americans are not capable of understanding images.

Text usually is only used when the artist cannot convey the message through graphic means in Japanese Manga. In American Manga, text seems to be used to aid the reader in comprehension as though Westerners are too stupid to read graphics.

Some of the Americanized Mangas get watered down further by relying on the heavy use of frames similar to comic books. The characters are clearly imitating the Japanese Manga drawing style but are placed in neatly organized boxes/frames indicating the required reading path and loaded with text to explain the graphics. These Americanized Mangas become nothing more than multi-page comic books or graphic novels.
