The perfect proposal was sitting right in front of me all along and it is unique. I could sit down with my mother and over the course of a few days, record interviewing sessions of my mother describing the socio-political discourse behind each of her paintings. I know full well there was a discourse there. In countries with politically repressive regimes, artists always use art to express and say the things they can't say verbally. when asked they can change the story of what the painting means according to who's asking. The problem with using art as socio-political discourse is that very few understand the message being delivered. That's why the government doesn't bother to crack down. Most of it goes mis-understood.
