Asking for Shipka's input on search terms was an
excellent idea as I believe the entire game could have become skewed to a male bias. All of the terms had to be tested beforehand because the most benign terms can bring up the most lewd of web sites. Shipka loves everything in Leopard print so as a joke we wanted to throw something into the mix that everyone would recognize as a "Shipka Search Term." As I have said several times, Shipka is not just an administrator in "this" space but also a co-peer because even though the classroom is a "learning space" it is also a "social space" and Shipka loves gaming.
I suggested in one of our meetings to search for a "leopard print electric toothbrush" and the first hit was a pornographic web site demonstrating how women should use an electric toothbrush for sexual stimulation. From there on, we learned, research and test every term first beforejust throwing it out there. This could have been quite embarrassing with three male presenters and 21 women peers. No, Shipka does not know anything about "this" search term or its elimination.
