Welcome to True64

Welcome to The True64 Website. True64 is a LUG ( LINUX User's Group) that is committed to helping it's members in any way possible ... even to the piont of requesting help from others to enlighten it's members on a topic they do not quite understand.

History

True64 was started on January 3rd 2001 , when it's founding members , G.S.Kashyap and K.Harish Kumar decided during their college's lunch session that they couldnt bear watch other LINUX users being alone and helpless anymore .. and finally remove LINUX from their PCs. The name True64 was chosen by Kashyap ( firestarter@mantraonline.com) because of the nature of the idea and also as it reflected the working of both the founding members' lives : Going 64 bit in a 32 bit world.

In essence , the best way to live your life is to live it as well as help others live theirs in peace and comfort.

Mission

The objective of starting this LUG is to provide all members ( and non members) a way to use your LINUX system and be in harmony with it. We will try to answer any questions you may have about LINUX , help you solve your problems , and find and use some useful utilities that can make your LINUX lives easier to live.

In order for us to implement this objective , we will need :

  1. Members
  2. To develop this site and concept.
  3. Members / Non members to come out with your problems
  4. Ideas on how to improve
  5. Contributions ( not necessarily monetary - anything will do ! Programs , horror user stories, FAQs , the works )
  6. Some free publicity.
  7. A permanent website
  8. Some nice writers among you to come out with ideas and projects.
  9. All of your best wishes !

Detail

We plan to put up 'enlightening' ( at least for some ) articles , some taken with permission from other sites and some original stuff on new and hot / important issues , as well as articles on how to take care of your system and learn some basic house keeping to keep the penguin running ... know what i mean ? . And then we will have contributions from our members , and non members ( if the do get to us) . We will try to keep posting a special called "The Linux Horror Episode of the Week" , weekly. We will also include some software that we think the members may find interesting. Also , we will include any software that a member has created and wants to distribute . (Please guys ... no piracy , we don't want to crash before we take off ! ) And especially before I forget to tell you guys , we will try to provide you links to different places where you can find more cool stuff and lots of hot downloads and information.

Observation

One thing we have observed is that about 95 % of all LINUX users we have observed have to be content with having LINUX coexist with Windows / DOS / QNX / Mac / BeOS / etc . , and a majority of them using Windows 95/98/Me/2000 . I guess if you've taken the step towards LINUX , you must be a very courageous lot. Ergo Sum , you might be itching to tweak the hell out of your windows as well.

Well , we decided that we might as well help these guys too! You see there aren't too many of us Windows X-perimenters.For these guys , we will put up some stuff on system optimization , tweaking , some utilities , and of course some stuff to make WinDoze somewhat less of an eyesore , like alternate shells , themes , skins , etc.
