Nintendogs Breeds: Secret Breed(s)
As you may, or may not,
know, in the Japanese versions of Nintendogs, there was a secret unlockable
breed: the Jack Russell Terrier. It has been confirmed that the Jack Russell
Terrier IS in the US version. This has been confirmed by the Nintendo Kennel
Club.
To unlock the Jack Russell
Terrier, you must take your puppy for
walks. As you walk around, you may encounter special events. These may include
meeting up with an NPC (Non-Player Character) Nintendog, your puppy may find a
present (which could be anything from a new toy, to a piece of junk), or you may
find new stores, a park, or the gym. When you're walking your puppy, what you want
is the present event. If you're lucky enough to find a present, and if you're
even luckier and that present is the "Jack Russell Book" than you will
automatically unlock the Jack Russell Terrier for adoption.
UPDATE: We have now learned
that the US version of Nintendogs gets 1 exclusive unlockable breed,
the Dalmatian. Similarly to the Jack Russell, the Dalmatian is unlocked by
finding a specific item while on a walk. The item to unlock the Dalmatian is the
Fireman's Hat.
UPDATE: I would now like to add that it has
been confirmed in Nintendo's Nintendo Kennel Club that the Jack Russell Terrier
IS in the US version.

Facts, Pictures, and Links
Wondering, "Where can I
find pictures of Corgis?" or "A Cavalier King-what??" than you've come to the
right place! Here I will give you a bit of information on each breed available
in Nintendogs, including pictures, and links to Wikipedia entries on each breed.
I have now added in-game shots of each breed for comparison. Please note that I
don't have any in-game pictures for the Jack Russell or the 3 US exclusive
breeds. Just pick a breed from the following list, which is in Alphabetical order for
your convenience:
