The Reluctant Hero - Missing Scene
By: Isa
SCENE INT. MITCH'S APARTMENT
Dawson is sitting on a chair, watching Jen sleep. He has a notebook on his knee and is writing furiously since he doesn't have the convience of his laptop computer. We hear him via voice-over.
DAWSON
(voice over)
I can't explain how I feel about her. Not anymore. I know at one point I thought I cared for her, but I'm thinking now that it was all just infatuation. (Wouldn't Joey die if she heard that one?) But really and truly, what did we have?? Some great kisses, a few great dates and alot of fights. That's all Jen and I have ever really been. One great, big bickering match.
He closed his eyes for a minute, wishing that it were Joey lying there, wishing that he was lying next to her, wishing that the full moon had never shone its evil glow on Capeside.
SCENE INT. DAWSON'S ROOM
"Lately" by Jodeci starts to play. We see Joey stir awake in Dawson's bed and look around for him. She doesn't see him, of course, and gets discouraged. Her thoughts that he could be downstairs are ruined when she sees that there are no shoes tossed on the floor and the note remained unmoved on his desk. She rolled over in bed and looked to the side, accidentally catching a glimpse of a framed picture on his rocket shelving unit. Inside the circular frame was a picture of her and Dawson on his front porch. She remembered the day that Mrs. Leery took it. It was right after they'd gotten together as a couple. She closes her eyes and hugged his pillow as the tears rolled on down.
SCENE INT. MITCH'S APARTMENT
"Lately" continues to play, and we hear voice-over as Dawson writes.
DAWSON
(voice-over)
I want to just break down and cry when I think about her. I mean, we had this perfect friendship, well it wasn't the perfect friendship because no one is perfect, but it was damn close! I miss everything about her. Holding her, touching her hair, the way she smelled. The way her breath felt when her head was leaning on my shoulder. Her kisses. Looking into her eyes and seeing all this love. I miss it all. I want it all back. (sigh) And I don't have the faintest idea how to get it.
SCENE INT. DAWSON'S ROOM
Joey is holding the picture and fingering it passionately as we continue to hear Dawson's diary entry via voice-over.
DAWSON
(voice-over)
It's really not my fault.
I mean, she said it's not my fault.
She needs her space, and I need to give it to her, but it hurts, it hurts so much.
I wish she could hear me now.
I wish I could talk to her.
I know exactly what I'd say.
"I love you Joey."
And it would be enough.
