2004 Wub Year Review

What a Year 2004 has been! GH has gone further downhill in my mind. Why do I continue? I guess in the hopes that somehow it will get back it's glory and sense of adventure, fun and mystery. Asking too much? Maybe so. The ratings are starting to dip into the 2.0's now, a dangerous sign for all involved.

2004 GH WUB AWARDS

  • Best Storyline: Helena and Tracey conspire to bungle Nem's wedding
  • Worst Storyline: Connor/Nikolas
  • Biggest Disappointment: Alexis/Sonny/Kristina reveal
  • Most overexposed: Nikolas/Emily
  • Biggest Blue-Box story: Sam loses Sonny's baby
  • Biggest Couple Look-Alikes: Courtney/Jax
  • Could be a Good Thing: Mike Running Kelly's
  • Stupidest "secret": Faux Laura in the Attic
  • Most fun: Dillon dressed as a girl
  • Worst timing: Helena's death before the wedding
  • Most fun "almost" couple- Luke and Skye

20041 2004 brought some newbies to GH and the most notable for me was the comeback of Steven Lars, son of Heather and Jeff Webber. Played by Shaun Benson, this guy was a much needed punch in a sea of mediocrity in PC. He isn't related to Sonny Corinthos either, which makes him gold in my book! The fact that he has a history (and a sister) is great. My pic for best vet this year goes to Cynthia Preston, who despite getting painted into a tight corner as the evil Faith, never gave up on her acting or enthusiasm. Her romance with Justus Q was also a nice surprise. CP always seems to give 100% to her scenes and deserves giant kudos. Of course, 2005 looks like the end to the character of Faith--but just like I loved Billy Warlock's dedication, I too think Cynthia is wonderful. To bad the writers just can't see great things when they have them!

Ah, The Daily Show with Jon Stewart. How can I not wax-poetic on this guy? MessO'Potamia is the best bit on TV today. He's a ton of fun--and can tell off the boys at Crossfire too. What's not to like?

    Other awards:

  • Best Soap: AMC; fun, consistant and uses it vets so well it's scary. I mean, there's Myrtle at Bianca's bedside while Opal's in the hall talking to Tad. Tad's turned into a great vet character in his own right. Good stuff and I always find myself smiling during this show.
  • Best Reality Show: The Amazing Race...it just beats the pants off of all the rest. It's fast, fun and never lets you down on excitement.
  • Worst Reality Show: The Swan. Ugh, please, telling women they need a total body makeover (including radical surgery) too be fab is just plain wrong. Making them go on to a competition afterwards? Frighting.
  • Best Creepy Show:NipTuck. Oy...there's a scary thing for you. Faces peeling off, women being men. Just plain goose-bumping moments
  • Fave New Show: Desperate Housewives. It's up there with Moonlighting, Northern Exposure and The X-files. Love it.
  • Best Moment in 2004: Sox win the Series. I'm not a baseball fan, but seeing those guys get the top spot was beautiful.
  • Worst Moment Evah!: Watching President Bush win the election. I still haven't recovered.
  • Best Movie: The Movie I laughed out loud at and had the most fun I've had in years during? Shrek 2. You can't ask for much more out of a flick. Runner Up: Kill Bill 2. Uma at her personal best. Grasshoppah all grown up. Sigh.
  • Biggest To-Do About Nothing? Janet Jackson's boob flying out during the Superbowl. Sorry. If an entire nation can get outraged at that and not the political crap that goes on, then count me as an evildoer.
  • Persons I Don't want to see in 2005: Paris, Lindsey and Brittney. Ugh. And throw in The Donald too.
  • Coolest Thing I don't have yet: Mini iPod
  • Best Site on the Net: I have to say The Soap Zone tops my list. Where else can you get great dish on all the shows, infighting, cool gossip and community spirit to boot? They may get bashed now and again, but as message boards go, this is one of the best and longest-running out there.
  • Runner-up site: Media Fiends and not just because I write for them! This is the best of the best for reality show schedules, interviews and recaps.
  • Most overused phrase: "You're fired!"
