Online diaries, journals, and blogs - oh my!
Just-for-fun stuff
** Gmail: Google's answer to webmail... and a good answer at that! I use one gmail account for all of my church related emails (when you're on the Board and Religious Ed. committee, you get a LOT of email), and a separate one for all of my Girl Scout email (I belong to several Girl Scout email lists which have provided me with all sorts of ideas that the parents in my troop think I'm amazing for). A gmail account allows over 2000 MB of storage per account (I have no idea how much that really is, but after two years of saving tons and tons of great ideas, I'm using 21 MB of my space). But even better than the storage space is the ease of finding those ideas - it's got a Google worthy search function, and keeps each topic in its own threaded conversation (as long as no one changes the subject line). It took me a while to get used to it, but now it is SO much nicer than opening tons of different messages when there are a bunch of replies. And the spam filter works correctly almost all the time. All in all, I *heart* gmail.
** Flickr: an extraordinary photo hosting/sharing/exploring site. That link will take you right to my photos, but poke around the site, it has lots of nifty features that could well suck you in. (Consider yourself warned.)
** Girl Scouts of Montachusett Council: Our local Girl Scout Council (at least for the time being, Girl Scouts of the USA is in the midst of a national restructuring which will reduce the number of Councils, realign borders, and rename them all over the next few years). In any event, this organization takes a lot of my time, and by extention, Rowan's. (Yes, I realize for many families it's the other way around, the parent is the leader because of the daughter. In this case, Rowan's a Girl Scout because of me, and should she decide not to continue in the future doesn't mean I will stop.)
**eBay: If you want to see if i'm selling anything, use that link. It's a nice place to get a bargain... and a great time suck ;)
** Start Sampling: They send you samples of products, you earn points, in theory you can earn prizes for the points (they haven't had prizes available any time I've checked in 2 years, unless you're willing to pay $6 shipping on the "free" prizes for low point-levels). Nonetheless, I enjoy getting the samples and DID get a nice Trivial Pursuit game out of the site way back when they still HAD prizes. :)
** Brain Bashers: Tons of games, puzzles, brain teasers and... Sudoku (which I always write and say "soduko").
** Teach a Child to Read Some great pointers for helping your kidlet along with this huge milestone.
** Crayola Creativity Central Lots of fun activities for kids.
** Making Friends A site mainly for scouting activities, but of course they could be adapted for any children (the site notes an age range of 2-15 years).
** American Girl: 100 percent Rowan approved site. She loves the books, she loves the games, she loves the AG Club, and, yes, she loves browing the catalog. When she's allowed her computer time, this is the first place she'll go.
** The Keirsey Temperment Sorter: Find out about your personality. If you read my personal page, you know I'm a "mastermind" (INTJ). I've met few people in my life who disagreed with their Keirsey results. :)
** Kiss This Guy site: Head to this site of misunderstood lyrics and have a great big belly laugh at others' expense.
** Anagram Genius: Ever wonder what you could spell with the letters in your name, but weren't quite interested enough to grab the Scrabble tiles and do it yourself? No fear - in half an hour or so, you can have a huge listing of phrases made from the letters of your name - or of any words, really. Trust me, it's worth it for the laughs.
** Veggies Unite!: The coolest vegetarian web site I've found in a while. I really love the weekly meal planner/grocery list thingymabobberthey have set up for you. Not to mention the TONS of recipes that had my mouth watering just reading them. Yum Yum.
