Synchronize your data in either direction quickly and easily to your handheld instrument for viewing on the go. This can be accomplished by means of several software programs available to you. Each has features that differ and depend on what you wish to accomplish with your data. MobileDB Lite will synchronize your spreadsheet but you can not edit it on your handheld device. MobileDB will permit simple editing but does not change your data according to spreadsheet formulas. Both possess an excellent feature, the ability to isolate a single column for viewing so that it appears alone, without other columns. You can then read the column by cursoring up and down rather than across the spreadsheet. Documents To Go from DataViz permits complete editing on the handheld device but does not have a column isolating feature like MobileDB. The column can be isolated but you must cursor across to view it. This is a bit of a nuisance. Quicksheet also permits full editing, but is apparently only set to work with Excel for now. Since we did not use Excel we cannot verify whether it will be of value until the company expands its capabilities. Your instructions will provide you with directions as to how to locate these products for download.
We also have available a spreadsheet format in which the rows and columns have been transposed so that each stock or mutual fund appears in its entirety as a column on the page without cursoring down to find it and then cursoring across to view or work on it.
To many individuals this format may be quite preferential, but MobileDB cannot handle more than 20 columns. Anyone with only a small number of stocks could find it convenient, but after a while it may become useless. Those persons who do not have a handheld device will probably prefer this format. On the other hand, Documents To Go from DataViz does handle this format quite well. Our main objection to this product is the need to constantly enlarge columns to fit, and the inability to isolate a column similar to that achieved with MobileDB. Nevertheless, anyone who wants to be able to alter his or her spreadsheet on the go with formulas kept intact may find this spreadsheet format quite attractive.
The SMFTA was developed to work on Corel's Quattro Pro where the files are in .WB3 format. If you use Quattro Pro there should be no problem. You merely place the spreadsheet file in an appropriate folder and open it directly from there. However, if you are using Lotus 123, Excel, or Paradox you have two alternatives. You can use your Open command under File and set the import to convert the incomng SMFTA to your particular format. We have done this successfully with Lotus 123 but some things can go awry. Usually the formulas will all work properly since most companies use the same ones. However, things such as bold lettering, italics, etc. may not translate. If you know how to change these on your own program you can simply do so in accordance with our instruction sheet. This is important because we do utilize such things to make use of the spreadsheet more understandable. One nuisance problem is that the floating instructions available on Quattro Pro will probably fail to appear. This is only a minor nuisance, however, because, although their purpose is to permit you to have your instructions right at your fingertips, you will also have a separate instruction sheet with exactly the same information, and you could print that out for assistance until you are completely secure about using the SMFTA.
The second alternative is for us to send you a spreadsheet that we have converted to your format if you advise us as to which format is used (eg, 1-2-3 v3x). Since we may not have access to your program in order to check the results, it's possible that the format that we send may fail to work properly.
In summary, your program empowers you with the ability to record your stock and mutual fund activities over the years, keep track of important data related to your holdings, calculate gains and losses due to your having traded or held on to your stocks, and permit you to calculate the advantages and disadvantages experienced by your trading capabilities thereby enabling you to have deeper insight as to what approaches may be better in the future and which to discard.
