Paula Cole was born in Rockport, Massachusetts to a musical family. She was class president for three straight years during high school. She performed in all drama productions, chorus productions, and took every music class possible.
After High School, she was accepted and attended Berkeley College of Music in Boston. After graduation, she recorded her first CD "Harbinger", it was delayed by a year. When the album came out in 1994, Peter Gabriel heard the CD and asked Paula to join his tour.
Paula's second CD "This Fire" was released in October of 1996 after touring with Peter Gabriel and opening for Lilith Fair founder, Sarah McLachlan on her tour in 1995.
"This Fire" earned Paula Cole 7 grammy nominations including Best new Artist, which she won, song of the year for "Where have all the cowboys gone?", album of the year, and producer of the year, making her the first female ever nominated for producer of the year.
"This Fire" produced the singles"Where have all the cowboys gone?", "I don't want to wait" (also theme to the show Dawsons Creek) and "Me".
