The invitation to her high school reunion couldn't have arrived at a better time. She badly needed a break. It would be fun to see all her old friends. To see how they'd changed and grown. She barely kept up with the few she had kept track of. She wondered about the rest. This would be a great way to find out.
"Mom," Holly said, slightly perplexed, "this arrived late, giving me only a week to get ready." She sat down at the kitchen table, thinking. "I'd really like to go, but I haven't a thing to wear and my cars' still in the shop. It won't be ready till after the reunion. On top of that, what will I do with Dana and Wayne?" She put her chin in her hands.
Mary looked down at her daughter and patted her hand. "Dear, don't worry, if you want to go I'll sit with the children and as I remember you saying; you do have a little money in the bank. Buy yourself something pretty to wear; in case you meet someone special. One of your old boyfriends, maybe.... Talk to the garage and see if they can finish the car early. If you tell Sam you need it, he'll probably try to rush it. Anyway, if you pay ahead of time maybe they'll be motivated to finish it." Mary winked at her daughter as she sat down. "Don't worry dear, go and have a good time." Signaling the end of the conversation, Mary cleared the table of lunch dishes and placed them in the sink.
Three days later she realized her mom could be right, she might just make it. Sam had finished her car early, and she had found what she felt was the perfect dress. And perhaps her mom was right again. Maybe Mark would be there...
