this gelatinous lump was sunning itself in a nonchalant way

on the stretch of sand where the picnic table is underwater.

i prodded it repeatedly; it was dead or very very slow.

it looks like a spontaneous organism made of sand and water, some weird

alien that'll evolve into earth's planetary ruler once we melt the icecaps.
