The new Sworn Vengence demo just same into my hands. If you like the new school, metal, hardcore then you should add "My Friend Violence" to your collection. This demo from Sworn Vengence is full of heavy guitar and bass and some reall good dance beats that make you wan to go and break something. Also for all you metal heads out there, check out Entomed's "Wolverine Blues" if you already haven't. This cd has been in my cd player and hasn't left. If you haven't heard the "Punk Uprisings Vol. 2" comp, then go get it. Come on How could you go wrong with paying like 10 or less bucks for a cd with over 30 songs on it? All different bands encluding H20, Ensign, Anti flag, Against All Authority, and more. It is good! Anyone like Living War Room? Aren't they good? I saw them here in Napa, CA with Towards an End. They are going to blow up in the scene pretty quick here. If you have the chance, get their cd. Go see them play on Dec 4th at the Danville Grange with Towards an End, The Hoods, Sworn Vengence, and some other bands. You can't go wrong with these guys.
Atom And His Package- A Society of People Named Elihu-Mountain Records. This is easily the best CD I'll ever hear. it's one kind of nerdy looking guy who has programed a sequencer (His Package) to play some sort of video game sounding songs and then he sings over them. Needles to say, it's hilarious, with song titles "Sting Could Not Possibily be the Same Guy in the Police" and the greatest song of all time "Punk Rock Academy." Maybe I'm just weird, but this is my favorite CD right now. Oh! And for all you hardcore kids, he covers Youth of Today and Fugazi. Highly highly recomended.
Towards an End-Broken Hearts and Shooting Stars-demo tape-Ok, if you have only heard their first demo, then you haven't heard Towards an End. The proggressions they have made are amazing and this is simply an amazing and powerful tape. The lyrics are of an extremly personal nature, but I think just about anyone can relate to them on some level. The sound is fairly poppy on the emo tip. Oh yeah, if you are a girl, you'll love this because they are the cutest guys ever. Except I'm cuter. Oh, and the demo is free, so you have no reason "not" to get it, jack ass.
That review was by Andrew Wallace.
VIDEOS! I trade videos with people. If you are looking to trade videos of bands please e-mail me atMark MenaceI have AFI, 25taLIFE, Towards an End, Union 13, Swingin Utters, The Hoods, Furry66, Second Coming, and more. Just drop me a line and give me a list of what you have.
Sept 4th @the Gilman was a bomb ass show. AFI, Furry66, Good Riddance, and Towards an End. The show sold out and there were to many people in the room, but kids still found a way to have fun. AFI had one of there strongest sets. Suprisingly, they didn't break any amps.
Sept 5th @ the Gilman. The Hoods headlined a benifit for Breakout Records. Second Coming, Forced Life, and United Blood along with Nuclear Rabbit also played. I have to say this was one of my favorite shows i have ever been to.
AFI has a new ep out called "A Fire Inside." IT has 2 covers and 2 unreleased tracks. They do a cover from The Misfits called " Demonmania." Check out this one. One of my favorite AFI cd's. But then again, AFI is my favorite band and all their shit is good.
If you haven't gotten The Hoods' cd, Alone, go get it. It is an ep put out by Breakout. The Hoods have a old school style sound that is brutal. If you like fast old school that has some dope ass breakdowns, then don't miss this one. It has 6 tracks of pure Sacto Hardcore!
I just recently got my hands on the Indecision " Unorthodox" cd. I have to say that this is hardcore. They combine some dope metal style riffs together with fast punk style hardcore to make them unique. It has 15 tracks and a lot of funny shit after the cd is over. Rumor has it that they will be coming to the west coast this next year. so watch out for them.
Shai Hulud is one killer band dude! They are heavy hardcore. I just had their ep entitled "A Profound Hatred of Man" brought to my attention. Hard shiot! If you can get a hold of it, then buy it.
Bossa Nova Records has a comp out that i think has been out for a while, but i am slow on getting these things. I just got the," Ten Years Later" comp. It has Trial, AFI, Powerhouse, and 7 Seconds, just to name a few, on it. There are a total of 28 tracks which all are different bands. It should be cheap so add this to your collection.
Breakout has a comp out entitled "California Hardcore." If you haven't heard it yet, then go and buy it. All the names in the Cali scene on are here. It shows what the scene should be about, diversity and unity. 12 tracks, 12 bands, come on.
Stepdown has a demo out. They are kind of the old GB style. Infact they do a cover of "Start Today" on their demo.
NJ Bloodline is one tuff ass hardcore bands. Their demo was just purchased at the last show I went to by yours truely. It hasn't been taken out of the tape player. Great shit.
Second Coming has free demo tapes and i just got one form their show. You should check them out. They are going to blow up on the scene.
Have you heard the Rise Up comp? If not, find it and buy it. Bands like Withdrawl, Implicate, The Hoods, and much more are featured on it.
Keep your eye out for 25taLIFE coming to the west with E-Town Concrete in early '99. I know that they will be playing in Vacaville, Ca so far. Downshift, as you all know has changed their name to Sworn Vengence. They were recently labeled as hatecore. I think that is wrong because they are the nicest kids on the earth. H20 is playing at Bojangles on Sept 21st with Kill Your Idols, Powerhouse, and The Hoods. Powerhouse just recently played their last show with Jay. He wanted to leave the band so that he can spen more time with his familly and his son. Their new drummer should be ready now. I guess he will be playing at their next shows. Vacaville is putting on some dpe ass shows. Their scene is blowing up. sXe Coote is turning hardcore onto a hole bunch of kids. Kids are actually into it. Greg from Trial has somehting wrong with his vocal cords. I don't know for sure, but i know he is taking a break this fall, but will going strong this winter. I ma going to try and get them this winter with 25taLife.
