Chapter Twelve: The Car He Always Wanted
Isaac flipped through the car magazine he was looking at while Taylor blabbed on the phone to Sierra. He rolled his eyes. Taylor was really acting pathetic over this girl. He had thought that Zac was on his side, but ever since he had met Holly, he had been acting almost the same as Taylor. I guess I'm the only normal one left in the family, he thought. He stopped to look at some of the cars on the page he was at. One jet black Mustang convertable stood out. He stared at it. Sweet! That is the car I have always wanted! He looked at the price. Yikes! But that's not the price I always wanted to pay.
He was staring at the car for so long that even Taylor stopped talking to ask, "What is that, Playboy? You've been looking at the same page for 20 minutes! Can I see?" he grinned.
"No! I mean, it's not Playboy, it's just a car magazine... Check out this Mustang." Taylor muttered something into the phone and hung up. He came over to the bed and looked at the picture of the car.
"Wow, that's nice," he said.
"Nice!? This is the most coolest car in the world! It's the only thing I've ever wanted since I was 13! This is the exact car!"
Taylor looked at him without interest. "That's great, Ike, it really is."
Ike scoffed at him and said, "You just don't get it, do you Tay?"
"Well, since I'm only 15, I can't drive, so what's the point of looking at cars I'll never get? I'd rather look at this," he said as he held up Victoria's Secret.
"Oh, you think that you're going to get one of them instead?" Ike laughed. "Yeah right." Just then Diana walked in and saw Victoria's Secret in Taylor's hand. "Oh, there it is," she said glaring at him. She snatched it and said, "I don't think that you should be looking at this, Taylor."
"Sorry," he mumbled, blushing. "Wait! Zac took it, not me!"
"Sure, sure," she said as she left the room.
"Good one, Tay!" Ike laughed. "You were sooo believable, 'it's Zac's, honestly'", he said mocking Tay. "Loser." Taylor stuck out his tongue and left the room.
"How mature," Ike said to himself. He turned back to the picture of the Mustang. What if I just call the number, just to see how much it costs? That's all I'll do. He picked up the phone and dialed the number. Nobody picked up and when he looked at the address, he saw that the auto lot wasn't very far away- he could walk. I'll just go and look at it, that's all.
Once he reached the car dealership, he saw the car right away and ran over to it. It was even more beautiful than in the picture. He rubbed his hand over the front of the car and looked in it.
"She's a beaut, isn't she?" Ike looked up startled. It was one of the employees.
"Oh, yeah! This car is like my dream car."
"Hey, I reconize you- you're Isaac Hanson, arn't you?"
Ike blushed at being reconized. "Yeah."
"Well, we don't usually allow minors to test drive cars, but I'll make an exception. My daughter loves you guys, so if you'll just sign something, I'll let you take this car out on the road."
"Seriously? That'd be awesome! Okay!" Isaac signed a napkin and got in the car. He turned the key and heard the car come to life. He then remembered that he didn't actually know how to drive. Well, he knew the basics, but he wasn't very good. In fact, he had only driven on the straight roads in Oklahoma, when there was no other cars around. He he, well, I've got to learn sometime, don't I? He put the car in reverse, grinded the gears and then remembered that you were supposed to release the clutch first. He finally got out of the parking lot and was inching his way onto the road when he realized that to go anywhere he had to get on the 8 lane expressway. He gulped and eased his way into the traffic. "Hey, watch it buddy!" yelled another driver. "I got the right away!" "Uh, sorry!" waved Ike. He put the pedal to the metal. Then he realized that he was going to fast and he slammed on the brakes. Cars all around him started honking and yelling at him. He slumped down in the seat and concentrated on the road and thought he was doing pretty good until a carful of grannies past him. Okay, I think that this is enough. He looked behind him and saw that there was a four mile backup behind him. He pulled over to the side of the road and let the cars go by. "Sorry! Sorry" he said to the drivers. They just glared at him and drove by. I guess I better get back. Maybe this isn't the car of my dreams after all. As he drove the car back into the dealership, he sighed a huge sigh of relief that he had gotten back alive. "So, how was the ride?" asked the salesman, when he saw Ike get out of the car.
"Um, it was okay. I think I better be going now."
"Well, you come back now, you hear?"
"Uh, yeah sure." Uh, yeah right. I think I'll stick to my mountain bike, that's a lot safer. Excpet for the time when Zac dared me to ride it off the roof of our house. And the time the brakes gave out and I went flying into the pond. And the time when...
