Chapter 20- Hanging Out
"Zac, I need some help here," complained 12 year old Nick Furst. "This is so heavy," he groaned.
"What, it's to heavy for you? Wimp," scoffed Eric Stannard, who was also 12. He reached down from the Hanson's treehouse to help Nick with the box they were attempting to get up in the treehouse. Eric and Zac lugged the box on the floor and Nick soon climbed up after it.
"Who's idea was it to bring all this stuff up here, anyway?" asked Nick, smoothing out his blond hair, which was messed up from climbing up the tree. He opened the box and started taking out the items that were in it.
"We'll be able to see Taylor and Tamara perfectly from here," said Zac, setting up the high zoom telescope. "You can practically see Jupiter with this thing."
"These don't work very well," said Eric from behind a pair of binaculars.
"That's because you're holding them the wrong way, moron," said Nick turning them around.
"Oh."
"Okay, I got it set up," said Zac, aiming the telescope towards the house across the street. "This is so perfect!"
Nick pushed Zac away. "Whoa baby! Whooo whoo, Taylor!"
"Lemme see," said Eric. "That's nasty." He turned to Zac. "How can you stand it?"
"At least Tamara's better than Tay's old girlfriend, Sierra. What a ditz." They were taking turns looking through the telescope spying on Taylor when Diana came outside and stood below the treehouse.
"Zac! Phone! What are you boys doing?" she asked suspicously.
"Uh, nothing," answered Zac as he motioned for them to hide the spy equipment. "Who is it?"
"It's Holly," said Diana, handing him the cordless phone.
"Who's Holly?" asked Nick and Eric at the same time. Zac grabbed the phone and jumped off the treehouse. His friends were close behind him.
"Who's Holly, Zac?" asked Nick.
"Um, just someone I met in London. It's none of your buisness," he said as he held up the phone. "Hello?"
"Hey Zac!"
"Um, hi Holly."
"Well, don't sound so excited. Guess what?"
"What?" he said motioning for Nick and Eric to go away. They, of course, moved in closer to hear the convesation.
"My parents said I could come and visit you soon! Isn't that awesome? Of course I can't come by myself, they're making me bring my sister, but I can still come. Zac? Zac?"
Zac stood there stunned. "Um, yeah. You mean you're coming for a visit? When?"
"Who's visiting?" asked Nick.
"Shut up," said Zac. "No, not you," he said to the phone.
"Well, can my mom talk to yours?" said Holly.
"Yeah, just a minute. Wait, you have a sister?"
"Yeah, she's a witch. You'll hate her, just like me. Her name's Carmen."
"Oh, great. Well, let me get my mom," Zac said. He ran the phone inside and gave it to his mom. He came back outside to Nick and Eric eyeing him suspiciously.
"Who's Holly?" asked Nick again.
"Yeah, Zac, who's Holly?" said Eric.
"It's a girl isn't it?" said Nick.
"No, it's a guy named Holly," said Zac. "Of course it's a girl, you moron. And I told you, it's nothing. Go away."
"Zac has a girlfriend! Zac, how could you do this to us?" Eric said, pretending to be all sad. "We have to stick together. It's us against them, remember?"
"I guess he doesn't remember," said Nick. "He leaves us for one summer and goes and gets himself a girlfriend. I can't believe you Zac."
"I'm sorry! I couldn't help it! She attacked me, I swear!" Zac exclaimed.
"Sure. You're weak," scoffed Eric.
"I'm not!"
"Are!"
"Not!"
"Are!"
"Not!"
"Not!"
"Are!" yelled Zac. "Wait, I mean..." It was too late. Nick and Eric had burst out laughing.
"See, you even admitted it! Weakling," said Nick.
"Fine! Just go away! You guys are immature anyway," said Zac.
"Oh, sorry! Just because we don't have little girlfriends means we're not cool like you!" said Eric. "Come on Nick. Let's go."
"Yeah. Sorry we're not cool like you, Zac." The boys walked out of the Hanson's yard and down the street.
"I didn't say that!" yelled Zac after them. "You're not cool because you don't play the drums!"
Nick responded with giving him the middle finger salute.
"No, that's not right," said Zac. He sighed and sat down on his front steps. Well, it's great to be home. My two best friends are mad at me, Taylor's ignoring me to spend time with Tamara and who know's where Ike is. I know, I'll just go and write a song. Yeah, about two retarded friends and two retarded brothers.
Zac went up in the treehouse with a piece of paper and a pen.
"Okay," he said to himself.
There once was a guy
Who thought he had it all
Then his friends got dumb
And left him all alone
But he still had his girl
And two cool brothers
Of course, they ignore him
And leave him out all the time
But it's all good
Oh, the life I live is sad
"That's no good," he said as he crumpled up the paper. He reached for another peice.
"Zac! Time to go to the dentist!" yelled his mom.
"WHAT?! Why?" he complained.
"Because you need your wisdom teeth out today. How could you forget?"
"NOOOOOO!!! I'm gonna sound like a dork! Please, let's go some other time!" he begged. "Sorry. I'll meet you in the car."
There once was a guy
Who lost all his friends
And probably his girlfriend too
Then his mom made him go to the dentist
And all his teeth were gone
The guy had nothing left
Except maybe his pair of yellow boots
"Zac, let's go!"
"I'm gonna look dumber than Taylor!"
"What did you say," asked Taylor coming into the yard.
"Uh, I hope I didn't say that out loud just now," Zac said as he ran away from Taylor, who was ready to beat him. "Ready?" said Diana as she smiled a big smile flashing her perfect pearly whites.
"I think I'm gonna be sick."
