I have recently come upon a new philosophy that I am trying ever so hard to start living my life by. It is a quote from E. M. Forster's A Room With a View. At first upon hearing it I never really got it, but something happened to me last thursday that made me realize.
"Think of how he's been brought up, free from all the superstitions
of the world that lead men to hate each other in the name of God. . .I
don't believe in this world sorrow, do you?"
"No, no I don't, not at all Mr. Emerson."
"Well then make my boy realize that at the side of the everlasting
why, there is a yes and a Yes and a YES!"
The fact is that everyone today spends so much time dwelling on how they would like to be successful and live life to its fullest that no one remembers the essence of it all. This is life! Humans are created with the ability to think and breathe and move and love and feel! It's amazing: a blessing, if you will. There is no point in "living life to its fullest" when you cannot comprehend or respect what life actually is.
The sad part of all of this is that no one person can truly explain this philosophy to anyone else. Every person, if she/he is capable and willing, must discover this on their own. One may not go in search of it, nor may try to truly conceive of it. . .I can only explain this philosophy to a certain extent. It just happens. No earth-shattering event took place last thursday, I was just on the phone and and this swelling of freedom and enlightenment took over my entire being. This is not some teenage, Thoughtprintsy, phase kind of deep melodramatic bullsh*t. This is life!
In the words of George Emerson, "Something tremendous has happened!"
