Who lived at 112 Ocean Avenue, Amityville, before the luckless Lutz family, and what was the real history of this outwardly desirable family rsidence? In a sequel the original movie ‘The Amityville Horror’ which tells the true story of the Lutz famil’s chilling supernatural encounter, ‘Amityville : The Possession’ dramatises other terrifying events which took place at the same house. Not for the fainthearted, this is a tale of satanic possession that leads to cold-blooded murder on a massive scale.
The movie begins pretty much like the first, with just little strange things happening which alerts the homeowners to an evil presence, but half way though when Sonny, the oldest son kills every member of his family adds a distinctive amount of genuine terror and atmosphere to the movie. It would be hard to write about this movie without obvious comparisons with The Exhorcist. I don’t want to offend anybody, but this movie DESTROYS the Exhorcist in every way. Atmosphere, gore, shocks, story, action, and even the atmospheric creepy music adds to the overall ‘greatness’ of this film. It is the best of the Amityville series which is watered down very much by the time the latest incarnation was released. Buy it, or god damn me, I’ll buy it myself!!
