Blue Velvet
1987
115 Minutes

Movie Description

Possibly the most influential American film of the 1980’s, Lynches bizarre erotic mystery spawned a whole raft of imitations with it’s portrayal of the dark underside of American small-time life. Critics and audiences responded to Lynches original and startling images of sex and violence and made the film a box office smash. Blue Velvet is renowned for creating, in Dennis Hopper’s Frank, one of the greatest screen villains of all time.

Movie comments

Not as crazy as Lynches Lost Highway or Twin Peaks, Blue Velvet isn’t as great either. A young man finds an ear in a field. Young man tells police. Young man investigates by himself. Young man gets involved with ‘crazy’ Frank, who keeps swearing and has a strange loving of Elvis. Young man kills Frank. The movie has many high points, especially the bit when F!!king suave Ben begins singing. The usual David Lynch actors are present, making this movie an instant winner.
