Description :
The Definitive zombie film DAWN OF THE DEAD, is acclaimed as one of the best horror films ever made. This cult classic is George A. Romero’s nightmare vision of a world populated by flesh-eating zombies and four individuals struggling for survival.
Story :
As the oil runs out, as Three Mile Island nuclear plant sprays radiation into the atmosphere like an atomic teakettle that someone forgot to take off the burner and as the dollar gradually becomes more and more transparent, Romero invites us into a crazed bedlam where zombies stagger up and down escalators, stare with dulled fascination at department store dummies wearing fur coats and try to eat perfume bottles. The movie’s four protagonists at first segregate themselves from this world, and then, unknowingly, become a part of it. The only difference is that they’re not dead. At least not yet.

Effects man Tom Savini says :
A third of that movie was improvised. We would sit around and think, let’s tear his head off, or lets take a saw to his face and cut the top of his head off. We would go to the shopping mall at seven at night and leave at seven in the morning, and it was just the best fun you can imagine. The joy and happiness came from thinking of a way to kill people and then actually doing it. Sometimes when you’re under pressure you can come up with your best ideas. There would be me and an assistant to do the straight make-up. For a few days we brought four or five friends in and made a little zombie assembly line. They would paint the zombies grey and I would do the gore make-up. If we knew that a zombie was going to die a glorious death hanging on to a car, then I would double them and do the stunt.
Dawn of the Dead is the low point of the dead series, although it is also a great film with marvellous effects for the time. The music played in the shopping mall is a blessing to us all in terms of atmospheric sound and the overall story is pretty great.
