Just who do I think I am?

Melissa Anderson.(Picture!)

What am I all about? I would say that I think of things from a fairly detached view point. I don't think through a certain logic or understanding, I pretty much take things in and try to figure them out on my own. I don't let someone else's ideas and ideals affect my own. That's not to say that I don't listen to anyone else, I do. I have changed my opinions about things because someone else presented me with something I couldn't argue with, or fell in love with. What I'm saying is I don't accept everything people try to impress upon me just because. I don't subscribe to an organized religion, for example. This doesn't mean that I'm an athiest. I just haven't found an organized religion that I can put the whole of my faith in. I'm 99% certain that I never will, either. I think religion is different for everybody, and so many people say that they are a certain religion simply because they were brought up in it. Many people I know do this, and have no real idea what "their religion" represents. So, I do my own thing, pretty much. One of the rules I try to live by is 'to do what makes me happy, that which defines who I am, as much as possible without getting in the way of anyone else's happiness'.
That's me, I guess. Plus, I'd be leaving out way too much if I didn't mention I love the way Curve for men smells. Mmmmmm.....

I'm an art student

This is an important fact. I spend a good deal of my time trying to define my personal style. I aim towards realism, which makes me think that I don't have any personal style what so ever. This is something I really really want to change, because one of the things I associate great artists with is a very clearly defined and unique personal style.
I have studied at a few colleges already, and since I've yet to find a school that entirely satisfies all of my personal, creative, and athletic ideals, I will study at at least one more. I've been to Bunker Hill Community College (claim to fame: my typography teacher also taught The Mighty Mighty Bosstone's Dicky Barrett. He created the band's logo in said class. woo-hoo.), Umass Dartmouth, and Katharine Gibbs. UMass met with my creative needs almost perfectly, and I'd love to have stayed there, but it was set too far from civilization for the likes of me. Next up on the agenda is Ohio State University. Hopefully, I'll be cool there.

I'm a Music Student

I started taking music lessons when I was eight years old. My instrument of choice: violin. That didn't last too long, mostly due to the fact that my bird-looking teacher would rip my bow out of my hand and slap me on the wrist with it if my wrist didn't display the proper posture. She sucked.
The next instrument I tackled was the wicked cool clarinet. I wanted to take the alto sax, so I could be all jazzy and shit, but my teacher thought that the alto sax was 'more of a boy's instrument' and that I should 'start out on the clarinet and work up to the sax'. Fuckin bastard. I did "start out on" the clarinet, and when I felt like I could handle the alto sax, I told him. By then, though, he needed me in the chair for clarinet, and begged for me to stick with it. Nice person (read: idiot) that I am, I did.
Recently, I've started taking guitar lessons. This teacher has already become my favorite. He hasn't slapped me on the wrist or told me I couldn't do something because I'm a girl. AND when he asked me what I wanted the first song I learned on the guitar to be, instead of saying the song's name (because it is virtually unknown), I told him which album it was on, and before I could continue, he starts playing the intro. He apparently used to play that song with his old band. It is actually one of his favorite songs. So, guitar has easily become my favorite instrument to play.

I'm an athlete

In junior high and my freshman year of high school, I was the catcher for my softball teams.
For all three seasons in my sophomore and junior years, I ran track. I would have continued my senior year, but I was involved in a car accident that prevented that from happening.
While at Bunker Hill, I was a point guard on the basketball team.
I plan on trying out for the crew team at OSU, if I don't make it, I'll at least try to throw javelin for the outdoor track team, if I don't run.
I run about 4.5 miles a day, I try to get in a run every day. On Sundays, I bike about 30 miles. I also play tennis and I swim. I used to have a private tennis instructor and I used to teach swimming lessons.

I'm an artist?

I told you already that I feel the need to define a personal style for myself. Until that happens, I do not consider myself to be worthy of the title 'artist'.

I'm a music enthusiast

I have an appreciation for all kinds of music. I like almost all kinds of music. There are certain pieces of music I feel like I couldn't live without.
I could talk about music for hours on end, just so long as the conversation didn't gravitate toward country music (the one genre I really can't stand). I have spent an obcene amount of money on music, on concert tickets, CDs, music systems, and the like.
I will be making a music page shortly.

I'm a sports fan

I love sports. I love playing them and I love watching them. Baseball is my favorite spectator sport, and the sport I know the most about. Hockey is a far, far second. I like watching any sport, and can get into any sport easily.
