Oracle confirms strong commitment to Egypt
Last month, Oracle Egypt held an "info-mercial"
seminar at the Ramses Hilton, Cairo, for over 100 managers,
systems developers and potential Oracle customers to
inform them of Oracle's latest products and services
and confirm its commitment to Egypt.
The leading announcements at "Oracle Application
Seminars" were made by Oracle Egypt Managing Director
Atef Helmy. He promised Oracle's "strong commitment
to Egypt and the region" and the plans to establish
a "center of excellence" in Cairo.
Oracle Applications, a suite of over 30 integrated client/server
modules, has garnered several prestigious awards lately
including the Datamation 1997 Product of the Year.
In addition to several demonstrations of Oracle Applications
used on the web and in decision support systems (DSS),
one speaker gave some refreshing and surprisingly frank
remarks.
Nadia Bendjeddou, Oracle's applied technology manager
for Europe, the Middle East and Africa, gave a talk
on "Why Technology Matters."
She admitted that "no major software system is
ever released completely bugfree including Oracle."
She went on to explain that the difference with Oracle
is their position as a provider of all three essential
information system products: database, tools and applications.
By choosing an integrated solution there are no competing
vendors blaming each other when a system crashes. With
this full range of product offerings, Oracle can "own
the problem" rather than "passing the buck"
when a customer has a problem. She stated that no other
company can offer this complete coverage.
Oracle made an interesting public showing of their commitment
to arabization of software. They announced and demonstrated
that all components of the Oracle Applications Finance
Suite, featuring general ledger, cash management, planning
and analysis are fully arabized. Many other Applications
suites are also arabized or are due to be in the near
future.
Oracle Egypt now lays claim to be the largest international
software and technology firm in Egypt. With several
consulting centers in the region, including Saudi Arabia
and Turkey, Oracle has an enormous presence.
Atef Helmy concluded with the promise that we can expect
more seminars from Oracle as they plan to continue
their policy of providing valuable information and
seminars to the local IT community.
We look forward to them.
