A great family night activity is when you are going to put up your Christmas tree and decorations. (Our family tradition is to do the the first Saturday after Thanksgiving). Each thing you put up was either given to you or in the family or made or bought, and usually have special meanings. We begin with a Christmas song..the first one of the season. Then of course a prayer. We put up the tree first and decorate it with all the ornaments and we put a meaning to each ornament so it symbolizes something special for Christmas. Then we decorate with lights and house decorations, and talk about their meanings. then we sing , pray and drink hot cocoa and eat popcorn.
Here are the symbols to each ornament.

The Yule log represents the fuel for the firelight and reminds us that all of the light that is within us is fueled by the Holy Ghost, when we seek after spiritual things.

To bring holly into the house at Christmas, reminds us that there is still beauty and hope, even in the dead of winter.
