Our boys came home to no parades Only horror stories and shallow graves Of the many friends they left behind In a wartorn land full of mines They got no praise or job well done For shame befell our veteran sons There were only jeers instead of cheers I can still see those flowing tears I had family over there you see And I was proud of what they did for me Of all the wars both won and lost This one had the greatest cost Bodies tore and spirits crushed I didn't think they asked too much For doing duty obeying commands Grubbing in the harshest land I heard their screams rage in their sleep It moved me so I started to weep I could not wipe their fear away Or promise there would be better days They gave their all, they did their best Our country put them to the test Then turned their back when they came home Left to suffer on their own "Casualties of war," you say... Happens somewhere every day" But not here in our U.S.A. After Vietnam |
