Just before you kneel to pray
  This is what you ought to say;
Does my heart hold any sin
  Is it pure and clean within?

Is my prayer for selfish gain,
  Or my spirit proud and vain?
Am I ready to forget
  And forgive the wrongs I've met?

I must search my heart to see,
  If the way is clear for me;
If within God's holy sight,
  Everything has been made right.

Then may I kneel down to pray
  For I have prepared the way.
