There was a man, who worked and saved.
Great luxuries to buy.
He'd always wanted to be rich,
And now the time was nigh.
But oh! The bank his cash was in
Had closed its doors one day;
And all his money and his dreams
At once were swept away!
Now where do you invest your gold?
I pray you count the cost;
Unless you place it in God's bank,
It's certain to be lost.
Some Christans labor to be great,
And earthly glories share;
Use what they have to please themselves,
For others have no care.
They lay their treasures up on earth,
For they had rather be
Wealthy for just a little while
Than for all eternity.
And when they leave this world behind,
To stand before the Lord,
They cannot take with them one mite
Of all their earthly hoard.
So why should we accumulate,
And live in ease today?
And be impoverished in Heaven,
Where we'll forever stay?
Nay, take our all, dear Lord,
And make each penny count for Thee;
And we will praise Thy matchless name
Throughout eternity!
