Cambodia

Welcome!!! I'm glad you can make it to Cambodia. In this site, I will tell and hopefully show you what my country is all about...

Cambodia is a small country; it comprises about 181,040 square kilometers in size. Like Loas, Cambodia is between Thailand and Vietnam which are all part of Southeast Asia 's territory. For centuries, Cambodia has always been under the influence of a Royal Personage. Cambodia is an agricultural country and is known for its rich natural resources and healthy soils.

The capital of Cambodia is Phnom Penh. Cambodia's access to water supplies is from three major sources: Mekong River which is its largest and longest river running from Laos, passing through one side of Cambodia and Vietnam, makes way down to the South China Sea. The other two sources are from Tonle Sap, its great lake, and Basak River systems. There are four major mountains within its territory: the Elephant Mts., Cardamom Mts., Dang Rack Mts. and Aural Mts. (one of the highest in elevation).

As you may know, one of the famous ruins in the world subsists in Cambodia. With its famous ancient achitecture, Angkor Wat has captured the hearts of many explorers; the French was the first to discovered its magnificent creation in 1861. Angkor was built during the ancient Khmer Empire around the 12th century. My dad had once mentioned that the contruction of Angkor Wat, along w/ Angkor Thom (another similiar ruins), had caused many tragic death to the workers. He said, "During those days, there were no such thing as machinery; so, they worked long hours and everything had to be done manually. From moving the heavy rocks to carving them." I had asked him why would that cause a tragic death? He said, "If not locked and sealed, the heavy rocks and stones would tumble down and crush the workers."

From ancient times until November 9, 1953, Cambodia had always been ruled by a Royal family. Thus, Cambodia people celebrate their independence day on November 9th. Although, independence was declared since the '50s, Cambodia was still under the Royal Family's influences. Today, there are two major parties that uphold the constitution:

  • CGDK (Coalition Gov. of Democratic Kampuchea)
  • PRK (People's Republic of Kampuchea; Khmer Rouge)

Through the years and even centuries, Cambodia has constantly suffered a tug of war over power struggles. It will take Cambodia a lot of love (from its neighbors, friends and most importantly--THE LOVE FROM WITHIN), trillions of dollars and several centuries of life span in order to mend Cambodia's damaged soul. Below is a list of topics which I will soon input details to.
