"When
you arise in the morning, give thanks
for the morning light, for your life and
strength. If you see no reason for giving
thanks.... the fault lies in yourself."
-- Tecumseh
Shawnee Leader
Let us greet
the dawn of a new day
when all can live as one with nature
and peace reigns everywhere.
Oh Great Spirit, a da nv do, bring to our brothers
the wisdom of Nature and the knowledge
that if her laws are obeyed
this land will again flourish
and grasses and trees will grow as before.
Guide those that through their councils
seek to spread the wisdom of their leaders to all people.
Heal the raw wounds of the earth
and restore to our soul the richness,
which strengthens men's bodies
and makes them wise in their councils.
Bring to all the knowledge that great cities
live only through the bounty
of the good earth beyond their paved streets
and towers of stone and steel.
~Jasper Saunkeah, Cherokee~
"Hey-a-a-hay!
Lean to hear my feeble voice.
At the center of the Sacred Hoop, You have said
that I should make the tree to bloom.
With tears running, O Great Spirit, my Grandfather,
with running eyes I must say....
The tree has never bloomed. Here I stand,
and the tree is withered. Again I recall,
the great vision you gave me. It may be that some
little root of the sacred tree still lives....
Nourish it then, that it may leaf, and bloom,
and fill with singing birds!
Hear me, that the people may
once again go back
to the Sacred Hoop, find the good road,
and the shielding tree...."

Oh Great
Spirit - Ada nv do
Let your voice whisper righteousness in our ear
through the west wind in the late of the day.
Let us be comforted with love
for our brothers and sisters with no war.
Let us hold good health mentally and physically
to solve our problems and accomplish something
for future generations of life.
Let us be sincere to ourselves and our youth
and make the world a better place to live.
You have
stories to tell and that is what will keep the memory
of a great people alive. Pass the stories to your children. Teach
them who, where and what their people were. Take time to search
your ancestry. Remember the past they took and have patience.
Stay in tune with your feelings and be strong in your search.
Trace your walk, feel satisfaction in knowing the end of the
rainbow you have looked for can be found at the toe of your
moccacin after realizing who we are and what we have.
