Here
are some hot new AOR and Melodic Rock bands:
This band out of Tacoma, WA,
USA is very interesting and maybe one of the most interesting bands around
at the moment. I am not able to hear their music right now, but I hope
I can hear their CD 'From out of Nowhere' soon, because STIFF BOURBON is
playing pure 80s AOR/Melodic Rock with influences from STYX, FOREIGNER,
JOURNEY and BOSTON. This band must be the new sensation, let's hope I can
hear their CD soon and make a review of it. And if the material is really
that good as promised, an interview would be the next step.
PRIOR PARK:
A very interesting band out of
El Dorado, California, USA. PRIOR PARK has released two CD/Tapes and are
playing 80s influenced AOR. Influences come from 38 SPECIAL and ASIA. I
really look forward to hear this band, hopefully I get the chance to hear
their releases 'Welcome To Prior Park' and 'Prior Park 'Passport' soon,
so I can make some reviews of this interesting band.
THE BUGGSY ROCK PROJECT:
THE BUGGSY ROCK PROJECT is a Melodic Rockband that features female lead vocals. They are being described as a mix between Queen, Boston, or Led Zeppelin while the female vocals give the songs a Heart type sound. Sounds pretty interesting. Even more interesting is the fact that one of the members of this band wrote "Magdaline", a song for BOSTON. But I can tell you this song was already recorded in the very early 80s by the band HYBRID ICE. This Classic AOR/Pomp Rockband released two albums and also featured that member of THE BUGGSY ROCK PROJECT who wrote the song already back then.
So, basically this new band features
a HYBRID ICE member, but there is also vocalist John(LLOYD)Kistner who
once sang with HARPO. Well, this band has quite a history. Now back to
the present, the band has released a CD titled 'On the rocks'. Hopefully
I can hear and review that CD soon, because the backing details sound very
promising!
AMUN RE:
AMUN RE is coming out of Australia.
They play Melodic Rock and I don't know nothing more about them. More info
when I get it.

2ND NATURE:
This band out of Connecticut,
USA is one of the most interesting bands I discovered lately. These guys
are playing pure 80s AOR. Influences come from JOURNEY, NIGHT RANGER and
DEF LEPPARD, so this MUST be something good. The band exists since 1994
and has already released 3 albums titled 'Will To Survive', 'Live At Toads
Place' and 'Rain'. Hopefully I can review them all very soon and if it
is really good, an interview will appear on our site.
SILVERWING:
A band out of North-Carolina.
These guys have released a CD titled 'Reality' in 1995, with a new one
coming up which will be titled 'Rain'. Hopefully I am able to review both
albums soon, because SILVERWING is playing 80s typed melodic rock with
influences from ALDO NOVA. Pretty interesting I think!
TALISMAN:
No no no! This is not the Swedish
Melodic Rockband TALISMAN. This is TALISMAN out of Panama, Latin America.
They have released a CD titled 'Justicia Divina'. TALISMAN is playing Melodic
Rock with influences from 38 SPECIAL, DOKKEN and RUSH. Sounds pretty interesting
and hopefully I can review their album very soon, so we can add another
interesting Melodic Rockband out of South America.
OFF THE EDGE:
OFF THE EDGE is coming out of
South-Africa and they have released a CD titled 'On the run'. This band
is influenced by bands such as BOSTON, STYX and HEART. I heard a couple
of songs and the sounded great. This female fronted band is playing pure
Melodic Rock in the style of TORONTO, HEART... Hopefully I can hear and
review their CD soon.

Musically it is Melodic Classi Rock, with influences from JOHN WAITE and
AEROSMITH. Hopefully more info later.

MICHAEL BRISCOE is coming out
of California and is playing Melodic Rock with some Progressive influences.
Michael used to play in the band Entity, but this band dissolved after
co-founder and guitarist, Ron Nies, was killed in a motorcycle accident.

but hopefully more info later.
LOUD'N'NASTY:
This is a Swedish band that is
playing 80s typed Glam/Partyrock like PRETTY BOY FLOYD, CRUE... The band
has released a CD and a review of it will follow when I get the chance
to hear it.
TOM ARICO:
This guy is playing both instruemntal
and vocal based tracks. He has released 3 albums so far and hopefully I
can hear and review all of them, because I heard a couple of songs such
as "Born and raised on rock and roll" and "Take me home" and both these
songs have a great classic instrumental melodic rocksound.
ERIK MARTENSSON:
ERIK MARTENSSON is a guitarist/bassist/vocalist
out of Stockholm, Sweden. He has already released a couple of CDs, which
I hope to review soon, because his music is very interesting. Erik is playing
80s influenced Melodic Rock a la EUROPE/MALMSTEEN.
ROLEN:
ROLEN is fronted by David Rolen,
who was the former vocalist of Jet/CBS recording Glamrockband MADAM X.
He took Sabastian Bachs place when he left to join Skid Row. The two girls
of MADAM X formed VIXEN, while David continued under his own name. Now
he has released a CD titled 'The Unexplained'. Musically it is 80s influenced
hard rock with TNT/DOKKEN references as I was told. I'll do a review, when
I get the chance to hear the CD.
HARD CANDY:
Band out of Georgia, they play
Southern type Glam Rock, hopefully 80s styled. I don't know if this is
the same HARD CANDY that released an album in the 80s, more info when I
get it.
THE MUGGS:
Yes, I know I already did a review
on a band called THE MUGGS somewhere else on our website, but I saw this
little write-up on THE MUGGS somewhere and I am not sure if it is the same

Melodic Hardrockband out of Windham,
Maine, USA. Band is described as a mixture between AEROSMITH and DOKKEN.
Seems interesting, more info hopefully soon.
ELECTRIC SHEEP:
This band is coming out of Tokyo,

80s influenced Melodic Hardrock
like ICON. SWITKICK is coming out of Toledo, Ohio. They released their
debut 'KIK ME!' 5 years ago, but this is still interesting enough for me
to review and they have a follow-up coming up. Hopefully more info soon.
RAW:
Not to be confused with the Swedish
or Dutch RAW, this RAW is coming out of the U.K. (I believe). They play
Powerful Melodic Hardrock. The band released a CD titled 'Mother Playing
Field' in June 1997. More info and a review when I am able to hear their
CD.
ROBIN BROCK:
This girl is coming out of Canada
and is playing tough Melodic Rock'n'roll in the 80s style, a bit like CINDY
VALENTINE I think. I am very much interested in hearing her CD and hopefully
I am able to do that soon, so a review will be placed on our site.
THE HERITAGE:
This band is coming out of California
and is playing female fronted Melodic Hardrock, somewhat like WITNESS.
They already have released two CDs and hopefully I can hear and review
them both pretty soon.
VIVID:
I heard one song of this band
titled "No cliche", this was a nice uptempo melodic poprocker. I haven't
got more info yet, maybe later more when I do get it.
BITCH-N-MOON:
Melodic Rockband as I was told,
I haven't got any more info.
DIANE FALCONE:
DIANE FALCONE is playing female
fronted Melodic Poprock, I haven't been able to hear her music, but I think

play 80s influenced high-energy melodic rock'n'roll with influences from
VAN HALEN and AEROSMITH. The band has released a CD titled 'Sluth', more
info when I get it.
BHOSS:
Melodic Rock, do not confuse
this band with the same named Australian band from the 80s. I haven't got
more info on this band, but when I get it, I'll do a review.
ASHLAND:
ASHLAND is a good sympho-AOR
band. I heard one song of them and this sounded pretty nice. More info
when I get it.

This band is described as an
AOR band, but I can't confirm if this is true, but when I do, I'll do a
review on them.
BACKFLASH:
80s typed Melodic Rockband out
of Arizona. When I get more info on them, a review will follow.
BAND CENTRAL STATION:
This band out of New York is
probably one of the most interesting ones lately, because BAND CENTRAL
STATION is playing pure 80s AOR/Melodic Rock/Radiorock with influences
from JOURNEY, 38 SPECIAL, BON JOVI, JOURNEY, DEF LEPPARD and BRYAN ADAMS.
This must be something really sensational. They have released a CD titled
'Now arriving' and hopefully I'll get my hands on this disc soon, so I
can review it on our site. And if the material is that good as mentioned
bands, an interview should be the next step. But first in the coming weeks
hopefully I can do a review.
JOHN DIAMOND:
The music of this guy must be
interesting. JOHN DIAMOND and Sheila Barnes are together the project Barnes
N Diamond. John has been influenced by the ERIC MARTIN BAND, VAN HALEN,
BON JOVI and HEART. So, this must be some great melodic rock they are performing.
Besides, his project, John has also been featured on the 'lost' STEFFANIE
release 'Pink noise'. Remember that Japanese girl that released the fantastic
AOR/Melodic Rock album 'Hideaway' in the mid 80s. Well, she released another
album and John was a guest on that record. I don't know how his music sounds,
but I am very much interested hearing it because the backing info is rather
interesting.
SWEET ALIBI:
Canadian band that has been influenced
by BON JOVI, KISS and DREAM THEATER. Don't know how it sounds, but when
I get more info on SWEET ALIBI I'll post it on our site.

CODE 3:
Band out of Texas. CODE 3 is
playing Rock with influences from BON JOVI and VAN HALEN. I don't know
how it sounds, but I am very much looking forward to hear it. And when
I can hear their material, I will do a review for sure.
RICH KAYNAN:
This guy out of Florida may be
playing some interesting rockmusic, because on his two albums he released
so far he is playing 70s/80s influenced rock. And we all know that these
were the popular times of AOR/Melodic Rock, so this may be very interesting.
Reviews on both albums will follow when I get the chance to hear them.
PHANTOM POWER:
PHANTOM POWER out of Washington
is playing Classic Melodic Rock with influences from HEART, BOSTON, LED
ZEPPELIN and BAD COMPANY. More info when I get it.
FROST:
Band that is being described
as a mix between JOURNEY, THE SCORPIONS and FLEETWOOD MAC! Hard to say
if its any good and is really in our musicstyle. Let's hope the JOURNEY
and SCORPIONS reference are for real and this is a good melodic rockband.
There's only one way to find out. When I get more info I'll know it.
FAKE REALITY:
Band out of Salt Lake City, Utah,
USA. They have released a CD titled 'Now Playing' and are heavily influenced
by APRIL WINE, KANSAS and RUSH. I'll do a review of their CD when I get
the chance to hear it.
SHARON'S ROSE:
This is yet another interesting
Christian Melodic Rockband. They come out of Atlanta, Georgia, USA and
have been influenced by PETRA, GUARDIAN, DEF LEPPARD and VAN HALEN. THis
is really good old 80s melodic rock'n'roll. The band features former DIAMOND
REXX (Chicago based Glam/Partyrockband from the 80s) bassist Chrissy Salem.
Let's hope I can hear their CD 'Sharon's Rose' soon and a review then will
appear on our site.
LYADRIVE:
Definitely not a new band, but
on the other hand I have never seen somewhere something about this little
band out of the U.K. They started back in the 80s and did some recordings,
but after their split in 1986 and their reunion a few years ago again,
the band is now working on a full album release. Hopefully I can hear and
review that record, because musically they are playing Pompous Melodic
Rock like PRAYING MANTIS, STRATUS, SHY, MAGNUM...
ONE SPIRIT:
A Christian Rockband out of Texas.
They are playing classic rock (a la KANSAS meets PETRA), but the Texas
and Midwest influences are there too, so expect some real Southern Rock
every now and then. But I think the band also has the couple of melodic
rockers in 80s style, if I am able to hear their CD, I will do a review.
SEAN MICHAEL MORMELO:
Out of Florida comes Scott Michael
Mormelo, another multi-instrumentalist. Influenced by Eagles, Elton
John, STYX, JOURNEY, FOREIGNER, KANSAS and Queen. So the guy is playing
classic rock. I wasn't able to listen to his music, but hopefully I get
the chance to hear his CD soon, and then a review will appear on our site.
FRED SIEGLE:
FRED SIEGLE is coming out of
Philadelphia, USA and he has been on the scene for some time now. I heard
a couple of his songs and they sounded pretty nice. FRED SIEGLE is playing
lighter AOR/Poprock like JIMMY HARNEN and the first MICHAEL MORALES. Much
more info when I get it.
STILL HUMAN:
Christian Hard Rockband influenced
by VAN HALEN. Already released 5 albums, more info on these records when
I get it.
ROGER TOWNSLEY:
This Californian guy has been
influenced by the AOR legends JOURNEY and BOSTON, but also the Pop acts
DOOBIE BROTHERS and GREENDAY. So, if someone describes his music as that,
I don't know if he is closer to JOURNEY/BOSTON kinda rock or the GREENDAY
kinda Pop/Punk. Let's hope he is more towards AOR, otherwise there is nothing
of interest for us. We'll just have to wait and see.
THE FOUR:
Hard to say if this Canadian
band is really something that fits in our musical genre. I haven't got
any info on them, except that they are described as a mixture of OZZY and
FLOYD. But it always sounds different and maybe they are just a melodic
rockband. More info when I get it.
SAVAGE HEART:
This band is coming out of Germany
and actually a very interesting band, because SAVAGA HEART is a female
fronted Melodic Rock/AOR band a la 80s HEART/WITNESS as I was told. I am
very excited about this band and hopefully much more info soon.
HOBBIT:
The history of this band out
of Texas goes way back to the mid 70s when they were formed. After so many
years, the band has now finally released a CD titled 'Two feet tall' which
contains recordings of the band from the early 80s. Musically they are
pretty interesting, because HOBBIT is playing Melodic Pomprock a la STYX
and KANSAS. In fact, this can be the next RATHSKELLER or PEACE AND QUIET.
Let's hope I can hear and then review their album soon on our site.
RICHARD JAMES:
This American musician has released
a CD titled 'Reflections' and this is quite an interesting release, because
the guy is playing 80s typed melodic rock like a cross between TNT, DOKKEN
and BON JOVI. Seems very interesting, hopefully much more info will follow
soon.
DEVILS NITE:
This is a very interesting new
Melodic Rockband out of Detroit, Michigan, USA. They have been compared
to the late 80s sounds of SLAUGHTER, WARRANT, WINGER... They have released
3 CDs so far and hopefully reviews of them soon.
MONOTYPE:
A Melodic Hardrockband that combines
the 90s heavy guitars with the melodic vocals of the 80s. A bit like bands
such as DOUBLE ECLIPSE and TEER. I heard two good songs of the band titled
"Leave it alone" and "Searching". Hopefully more info soon.
DORIANPAGE:
Out of Kentucky, US comes this
DORIANPAGE. They have released two albums so far and are musically playing
melodic rock with influences from WHITESNAKE, THE BABYS, JOHN WAITE...
I'm sure interested in how they sound. More info when I get it.

rockband with influences from VAN HALEN and SCORPIONS. They have released
two albums titled 'It's Deep' and 'Beyond Orgasm'. As soon as I get to
hear these albums, a review will follow.
UNDERCOVER:
We have had quite a lot of bands
named UNDERCOVER the last decade and now we can add another one. This UNDERCOVER
comes out of Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada. They have released a self-titled
debut album. Musically this one is playing 80s typed melodic poprock with
influences from COLIN JAMES and BRYAN ADAMS. Hopefully more info soon.
KILLRIFF:
Californian band playing 80s
influenced melodic rock. I haven't got much info, but I do I hope I am
able to review their album 'Hello Pasadena!' soon.
JASON ROGERS:
JASON ROGERS is coming out of
Anchorage, Alaska, USA. Jason Rogers is another multi- instrumentalist
that does everything on his own. He has released a self-titled CD and hopefully
I am able to review that album soon, because I heard a couple of tracks
of Jason and they sounded pretty good. Songs like "American girl", "The
essence", "Think about love" and "How long" are excellent AOR tracks in
the best 80s tradition. Some references to STAN BUSH can be made, although
vocally it is more quirky poprock based, but musically JASON ROGERS is
playing pure 80s typed AOR/Melodic Rock with keys, harmonyvocals and guitars
at it's best. Hopefully much more info soon.
GUY PARTIN:
Out of Pennsylvania, USA comes
GUY PARTIN. Guy is a multi-instrumentalist and does play his own music
all by himself. I heard two wonderful tracks of Guy called "Rock'n'roll
heaven" and "Not the only one". These two songs are pretty much 80s styled
uptempo AOR rockers with many DAKOTA (circa 'Runaway') and TOTO similarities.
The keys are upfront and Guy has a superb AOR voice that suits really well
with the songs he is making. I don't know if Guy has a CD or Tape available,
but I hope so, because I would really like to hear and review all his material
and inform you guys on details how to get music of Guy. Hopefully more
info soon.
MARKO:
This guy is coming out of Burbank,
California - USA and is playing pure and pure AOR! It sounds really great,
but what can you expect with songtitles like "PICKING UP THE PIECES"
"LOVE CONQUERS ALL", "LOSING
MYSELF" and "ALL OF MY LOVING, then it must be great and it is really good.
MARKO has released a CD titled 'Rehab' which I hopefully can review
someday soon.
SOUTH OF HEAVEN:
SOUTH OF HEAVEN is a band out
of Ireland and are playing great AOR/Melodic Rock, just like their fellow
Irish band BIG GENERATOR. I heard a couple of songs of this band and they
sound really great. I heard clearly influences from SURVIVOR and JOURNEY,
especially the ballads of this band are pure AOR reminding me of the big
80s AOR bands. This is really a band to look out for and hopefully I can
review their CD pretty soon.
CRISIS:
Another Melodic Rockband out
of Ireland. Following in the footsteps of BIG GENERATOR and if their material
is really that good is a question to me. Hopefully I can get in touch with
these guys, so I can hear and review another band out of Ireland.
THE MJM BAND:
When a band is saying they are
influenced by bands like STYX, KISS, REO SPEEDWAGON, JOURNEY, LOVERBOY,
BILLY SQUIER... it must be a pure AOR/Melodic Rockband. But I can't confirm
this, because I never heard songs of this band, but when I get the chance
to hear it, a review will appear on our site.
STORM:
This is not THE STORM (with Kevin
Chalfant). It also ain't STORM (the female fronted Pomprockband that released
two albums in the 70s/80s). It even isn't THE STORM that only circulated
in the demo scene at the end of the 80s. No, this new STORM is coming out
of Danville, Illinois, USA. They play classic rock with influences from
UFO, Kansas, Thin Lizzy, Sammy Hagar, Van Halen... STORM has released a
CD titled 'She's Got The Night', hopefully a review will follow soon.

This is NOT the German Melodic
Heavy Rock band that has recently reformed. This MAD MAX is coming out
of Newport Beach, California - USA and is playing your type of 80s typed
Melodic Hardrock a la DOKKEN/NELSON. Actually it is pretty good! The band
has released two CDs and hopefully I get the chance to hear and review
them soon.

like DOKKEN and RECKLESS. Hopefully more info soon.
SCREAM OF CONSCIOUSNESS:
Out of Florida comes this band.
They are being described as JOURNEY with PAT BENATAR on vocals. yes, they
have a female vocalist and if this is really the truth, we can welcome
a very interesting female fronted AOR band over here. The band has released
an album titled 'Scream of Consciousness' in 1997, with a new one coming
up in the fall of 1999 titled 'Midnight Mass'. Hopefully I am able to do
reviews on both albums on our site.

They are influenced by the 80s AOR sounds of TOTO and ASIA. Seems interesting,
hopefully more info soon.

"Fall in love" and this was pretty nice melodic rock. Hopefully more info
soon.

They play good melodic hardrock, but I can tell you more when I get some

"Midnight lover". This song was pretty nice uptempo melodic rock that reminded
me of the Scandinavian type of Melodic Rock (like PANGEA). Hopefully more
info soon.
LOVERING:
This is the latest new AOR sensation
and believe me, this is really the truth. LOVERING is coming out of Canada
and they have just released a CD titled 'Calm before the storm' on Maple
Leaf Records, the German Melodic Rocklabel. LOVERING consists of two people
and the AOR these guys bring is pure AOR orientated. I heard one song called
"One more lie" and this is superb midtempo AOR with lovely keys, hooklines
and vocals. Very similar in style to ROKBOX, JOURNEY, MARK FREE ('Long
way...'), ALIAS, SIGNAL... Hopefully much more info on this wonderful new
AOR band soon. In the meantime, I will upload a review of a compilation
that has just been released in the next few days and that CD features one
song from LOVERING.
