GOLDEN FARM 'ANGEL'S TEARS'
(AVISPA RECORDS) December 2001 will go into AOR history as the month Spanish AOR bands released their Classic debut CDs. First off we have GOLDEN FARM, a fantastic new AOR band out of Madrid, and their debut CD 'Angel's tears' is maybe one of the best Spanish releases ever! The band has released their CD on the famous AVISPA RECORDS, a Spanish label that released a lot of records in the 80s of Spanish bands. Now the label has returned and one of their latest releases is the fantastic debut CD of GOLDEN FARM. I can guarantee you that the 12 songs on this band's debut CD are very impressive pure AOR songs in the style of ROXUS, JAMES CHRISTIAN, early FM, STAN BUSH AND BARRAGE, and the band has a very good lead singer (Toni Menguiano). Besides, the sound and production quality is from a very high level, this band is as good as (or much better than) anything labels like FRONTIERS en MTM have released the past few months, and as those labels also released many great albums, then you will understand how good this GOLDEN FARM really is. Opener "I can't tell you" shows rightaway that we have to deal here with a high quality AOR band, because this first song is a fantastic classic uptempo AOR rocker (with great keyboardplay) a la SURVIVOR, the first FM and STAN BUSH AND BARRAGE. This is totally pure AOR and the whole CD continues in this same Classic 80s AOR style and you definitely can't hear any difference with the English and American AOR bands, as these guys don't have any accent (which so many people say about foreign bands playing AOR). Anyway, the CD continues with the great AOR ballad "Tears of loving", a song that sounds like a cross between ROXUS and JAMES CHRISTIAN. The hookladen "Fire and ice" is up next and is yet another classy AOR song a la STAN BUSH AND BARRAGE. And the album just goes on in this Classic AOR HEAVEN style, with such perls like "Everything sometimes" (lovely midtempo AOR a la BAD ENGLISH, STREET TALK), "Time after time" (great AOR ballad a la CHINA SKY), "All I want" (classic AOR a la ROXUS, SIGNAL) and closing track "When the morning sun" (fantastic Power AOR ballad a la DARE, with a really beautiful chorus). My favourite songs are "I need your love" (superb classic 80s AOR like SHOOTING STAR meets SURVIVOR) and "I want to know" (lovely classic Power AOR ballad a la GIANT, TEN, ALIAS, a very emotional song). Actually the whole CD is classic AOR, only the songs "All night long" and "Why these years" (both melodic rockers a la DOKKEN) and "They say" (still great strong midtempo progressive melodic rocker a la 80s MALMSTEEN) showed a less AOR type of style, but in general speaking this GOLDEN FARM is a Classic AOR band. They come from Spain and very soon you can read an interview with them, and also with the other new sensational Spanish AOR bands (reviewed below). 91 SUITE '91 SUITE' (VINNY
RECORDS) Like I already said earlier in the GOLDEN FARM review, lately Spanish bands have been popping up everywhere and most of them are really terrific. Now here's another sensarional band, they are called 91 SUITE and their debut CD will be released early next year. This same titled debut CD will contain 13 tracks (including an European bonustrack) and their recordlabel is VINNY RECORDS, the same label that brought us the fantastic Spanish AOR bands ELYTE, SEVEN LTD., FOOL'S KIN and recently re-issued albums of HIROSHIMA and TOKIO. Now 91 SUITE is another superb high quality perfect 80s orientated AOR band with classy songs and a clean production. The album was mixed by MARK MANGOLD (TOUCH, DRIVE SHE SAID etc.), who also makes an appearance on one of the included tunes, just like Al Fritsch (DRIVE SHE SAID singer) does some backup vocals on most of the tracks. What more can I say about this wonderful album, apart from the fact it is almost an AOR Classic, all the songs just capture the Classic 80s AOR sound we all love so much. Imagine a mixture of DRIVE SHE SAID, 1st BON JOVI, ROXUS and JADED HEART (especially during the choruses) and you're somewhere close to 91 SUITE's sound. It's really hard to pick favourites, because all the included songs rock as melodic as you can get. But if I had to pick a few, then I would choose "Down to you" (classy uptempo AOR like the very first BON JOVI), "Time to say goodbye" (another classy piece of uptempo AOR), "Lost in the silence" (lovely AOR ballad a la ROXUS, DRIVE SHE SAID), "Hurt and pain" (those Mark Mangold keys are totally classic AOR, and this fantastic song is dangerously close to the very first MICHAEL BOLTON classic mixed with some DRIVE SHE SAID), "Give me the night" (uptempo AOR with a lovely chorus a la JADED HEART) and "I will stand by you" (another uptempo AOR Classic with a brilliant chorus). Actually I can go on and mention all the tracks here, because there's not a single weak song on this awesome record. 91 SUITE are together with GOLDEN FARM the best AOR bands at the moment and they both come out of Spain! Every AOR fan should buy this CD a.s.a.p. Very soon a long interview with 91 SUITE! And trust me, VINNY RECORDS will be one of the top recordlabels in AOR music the coming months, because they already have plans to release more such AOR gems (ICE BLUE will be the next Spanish AOR band to release their debut on this label), so better be aware of a whole new generation of AOR bands next year. AVATAR 'ESSENCE' (VINNY
RECORDS) Another great release on the Spanish label VINNY RECORDS! AVATAR is a new Spanish band and their debut album will be released soon. The band is playing a good mixture of Progressive Rock, Melodic Rock and Progressive Metal, ending up sounding like a combination of RADAKKA, FATES WARNING, THRESHOLD and SYLVAN. There are 9 tunes on their CD, which has a great production. The unique sound of AVATAR can already be heard on the first track "See the sorrow", a great progressive melodic heavy rocker with a Power Metal middle part and a great keyboardsolo, while still keeping enough good melodies for the fans of lighter Progressive Rock/Melodic Rock. And the whole CD continues in this style, of which my favourite tracks are "Do we really want?" (a la FATES WARNING), "Romantic legend" (nice progrock), "Power rules" (great progressive melodic rockballad) and "Eyes of love" (good progressive heavy rock/metal). Concluded, this AVATAR is a great progressive melodic rock/metal band, and they definitely have an own identity that will attract fans of various genres. AVATAR is another high quality Spanish band on VINNY RECORDS. More info at: http://www.vinnyrecords.com Rating: 8/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
HIROSHIMA 'HIROSHIMA' (VINNY
RECORDS) HIROSHIMA is another Spanish band from the late 1980s that released one album back then, which now has been re-issued by VINNY RECORDS. I think HIROSHIMA is better than TOKIO, mainly due to a better vocalist and stronger songs on their only (?) album. The keyboards are also much more upfront and the choruses are very melodic and besides, most of the tunes are filled with catchy hooks, so this is definitely a must for fans of that Classic 80s AOR sound. HIROSHIMA sounded like the perfect mixture between SHY, early DANGER DANGER, EUROPE, 80s BON JOVI and AVIATOR. It's a pity there were only 9 songs on the CD and the album only has a playing time of 33 minutes, because HIROSHIMA really was a high quality band from Spain and they deserved much more attention. Opener "Come on" is not one of the best songs, but still it is a fun uptempo melodic rocker a la TREAT, DALTON and ZINATRA. The following 5 songs are very good. These are "Forever" (pure 80s AOR/Melodic Rock a la EUROPE, with nice keyboardwork), "Missing you" (again great keyboardwork, song itself is a lovely midtempo AOR tune a la first DANGER DANGER album), "Broken heart" (pure 80s AOR dut-dut keys at the start like SURVIVOR meets early BON JOVI, song is a fantastic uptempo AOR rocker a la SHY), "Loneliness" (pure 80s fun uptempo AOR/Melodic Rock a la ZINATRA, TREAT) and "Feel the wind" (uptempo 80s melodic rocker a la SHY, TOBRUK). "Don't close your eyes" is the first less AOR based song, but still this is a nice melodic rocker like DOKKEN, NIAGARA Next track "Tell me what you want" enters the classy AOR style again, with some nice keys, very much like SHY again! Closing track is the midtempo AOR song "We belong", not unlike DANGER DANGER's first record. HIROSHIMA was definitely one of the best bands from the 80s Spanish Rockscene and it's a pity they didn't get that much attention. Still give it a second try, because this is a very impressive AOR album that fits somewhere between SHY and the first DANGER DANGER album. TOKIO 'TRIANGLES' (VINNY
RECORDS) I don't have that much info on this re-issue by VINNY RECORDS, but I believe TOKIO was a Spanish band and they released their only LP in the late 1980s. Now 'Triangles' has been re-issued on CD by VINNY RECORDS and easier to get. Musically the pure 80s AOR/Melodic Rock is similar in style to TREAT, SHY, TOBRUK and FATE. I have to say that the beginning of the CD is very promising, but unfortunately towards the end of the album, the songs are a bit weaker. Anyway, songs like "Love story in Tokio" (great 80s AOR/Melodic Rock a la TREAT), "We want peace" (good midtempo melodic rocker with a catchy chorus), "Face to face" (best song, very good 80s AOR a la SHY, ASIA, SURVIVOR), "Don't leave" (nice semi melodic rockballad) and "Rock is light" (nice keys, good melodic rocker a la TREAT, ZINATRA) are pretty nice to listen to, if you're a dedicated fan of 80s 'hair' melodic rock/aor in the style of mentioned bands. A bit weaker are songs like "Do it" and "Bluesman", but still this TOKIO is a recommended piece to fans of 80s Euro Melodic Rock/AOR (ZINATRA, TREAT, SHY, TOBRUK, DALTON). TONY BAENA 'BURNING SPIRIT' (VINNY RECORDS) Multi-instrumentalist TONY BAENA comes out of Spain and he has released a very impressive high quality instrumental progressive melodic rockalbum entitled 'Burning spirit' on the VINNY RECORDS label. Tony did almost everything on his own. The songs are all in the same style, and the instrumental progressive melodic rock of TONY BAENA reminds me of acts like DREAM THEATER, VINNIE MOORE, MASI and a little YNGWIE MALMSTEEN. The guitar and keyboard playing is very impressive and Tony definitely proves to be an excellent musician. This CD is a total must for everyone who is into instrumental progressive melodic rock. PINK CREAM 69 'ENDANGERED'
(MASSACRE RECORDS) 'Endangered' is the 10th CD by German melodic rockers PINK CREAM 69, and although they changed their sound a bit in the mid 90s, the last couple of albums show the real PINK CREAM 69. And also this new CD contains the typical PINK CREAM 69 Melodic Hardrock. The CD contains 12 tracks, of which "Pinball wizard" is a cover of THE WHO classic and closing track "One time is not enough" is a bonustrack (not mentioned on the CD liner notes!). As always PINK CREAM 69 brings well performed Melodic Hardrock and sometimes it reminds me of TAKARA (especially lead singer David Readman makes me think of Jeff Scott Soto a lot of times). The best songs are "Promised land" (fantastic melodic hardrock with great harmonyvocals and a catchy chorus), "Don't need your touch" (strong midtempo melodic rocker with again a great chorus, on this song David sounds a lot like Jeff Scott Soto!), "High as a mountain" (great melodic hardrock with a sing-a-long chorus), "Shadows of time" (very good semi melodic rocker with a catchy chorus) and bonustrack "One time is not enough" (good midtempo AOR/Melodic Rock). PC'69 returns with a great new CD and they definitely belong to the best German melodic rockbands still around today! Rating: 8,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
AXXIS 'EYES OF DARKNESS'
(MASSACRE RECORDS) AXXIS is just like PINK CREAM 69 one of those typical German Melodic Hardrockbands that survived the 90s. They have been releasing quality albums ever since the late 80s without making a long break. The new CD is titled 'Eyes of darkness' and continues the melodic rockstyle created on their previous records, in fact they sound now more than ever like their debut 'Kingdom of the night', which was their best effort and also their most successful release (sold 150,000 units). Their 9th CD release does not only contain 13 great songs, but also a very cool videoclip of their song "Shadowman" and a Game (which didn't work on my PC unfortunately). My favourite tracks on the CD are "Eyes of darkness" (uptempo sing-a-long melodic heavy rocker), "Brandnew world" (great melodic rockballad), "When the sun goes down" (fun uptempo melodic heavy rocker), "Shadows of the light" (midtempo melodic rocker), "One million faces" (great midtempo melodic rocker), "At the crack of dawn" (great cheerful uptempo melodic rocker) and "Larger than life" (uptempo sing-a-long heavy rocker). The band also recorded the cover "The four horsemen", a 30-year old song by APHRODITE'S CHILD (wasn't Demis Roussos a member of this band?). Anyway, AXXIS has released one of their best albums since their classic debut album 'Kingdom of the night' from 1989. Next year I'll definitely be present at one of their shows when they tour through Europe! Rating: 8,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
SHIVA 'DEMO SONGS 2001'
(INDEPENDENT) I recall a band called SHIVA from the 80s, but this is a hot new Swedish band. This SHIVA consists of guitarist/keyboardplayer/bassist Mats Edstrom and female lead singer Anette Johansson. For this demo, they got help from Jan Snarberg on drums and Mattias Hoijer on bass. The demo contains 7 tracks and actually it sounds very sensational. The band mixes all kinds of influences (AOR, Melodic Hardrock, Progressive Rock/Metal and even straight-ahead Hardrock) and I hear similarities to bands like BONFIRE, GOTTHARD, EUROPE, but also KAMELOT. The only difference with those bands is that SHIVA has a female lead singer, but she sings very well and sounds very melodic, a bit in the typical Swedish melodic rock tradition. Opener "Free my soul" is a HUGE uptempo progressive melodic heavy rocker a la KAMELOT. Next track "Dow Jones Index" is a catchy uptempo melodic rocker like BONFIRE meets TREAT (especially the catchy chorus is very much in the Swedish melodic rock tradition). The first (and only) weaker song is "Shame on you". But the two following tracks are pretty good, namely the hookladen midtempo melodic rocker "Would you lie to me" and the uptempo melodic hardrocker "Lead you on" (with a pure GOTTHARD orientated rhythm sound). Then comes my favourite track, the fantastic uptempo melodic rocker "Marilyn", a song in the style of early EUROPE. The good semi AOR rocker "One more day" closes the CD. This SHIVA is another great new band from Sweden, and they have a very diverse style which stays always very melodic in its approach. KEDRON PORTER 'ONE FIRE/DEMOS'
(INDEPENDENT) Out of Arizona, USA comes multi-instrumentalist KEDRON PORTER. He already released 4 albums before his latest CD 'One fire', so I guess you can say that Kedron has already had some experience in the music business. Just like his previous albums, also his latest CD 'One fire' is filled with mainly instrumental melodic songs that start out very calm (acoustic guitar), but later turn out to be great melodic rockers. Songs like "Together again", "Waiting for yesterday", "The fire inside", "Past gone by" (best song, good semi melodic rockballad) and "Rippled through time" are good examples of how good Kedron Porter can play his instruments. The few vocal tracks included on the CD are not really something special, in fact, Kedron himself isn't really good in singing, it's best to use the female singer who sings on 2 songs on this CD and also on the new songs on the CDR Kedron sent me. This CDR contains 6 new tracks to end up on his upcoming new CD, scheduled for release next year. I have to say that the new songs sound much more interesting than the songs on the CD. Probably due to the fact that Kedron has chosen for a more 'Rocksound' and also the addition of vocals makes the music better, because the CD 'One fire' started to get bored at one point. All the songs are instrumentals and in the same style, not meaning that it is bad or anything, because after all the CD is a high quality instrumental CD, but you start to miss some uptempo rockers with vocals. Anyway, the best songs on the CDR are "3" (uptempo melodic rocker, great songs, and please more songs in this style would work very well on a future CD), "4" (calm start, nice semi melodic rock/aor) and "5" (best song, a pure 70s HEART type of uptempo melodic rocker with excellent guitarwork). Also included is an instrumental version of the LED ZEPPELIN classic "Stairway to heaven". The CDR proves that Kedron is on the right track now, so let's look out to his next CD to be released in May 2002, unless you're a fan of instrumental melodic rock, then you can already check out 5 Instrumental CDs of Kedron at: http://www.3graphics.com Rating: 7,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
LUNATICA 'ATLANTIS' (PROMO
CD) 'Atlantis' is the forthcoming debut CD of the Swiss band LUNATICA. This band consists of 7 members, of whom the lead singer is the female vocalist Andrea. The music of LUNATICA is very melodic, comparable to bands like EDENBRIDGE, LANA LANE, HEADLINE The CD has a playing time of only 40 minutes, but what you get to hear is high quality female fronted powerful melodic rock all throughout the album. Most of the songs are in the same style. Opener "The search begins" is a nice keyboard intro, while the first real song is "World under ice", a great powerful melodic rocker like LANA LANE and EDENBRIDGE, with nice keyboardwork and good singing of Andrea. And actually, what follows are 6 more songs in this style, of which my favourites are "Atlantis", "Silent scream" and "Time". This is a high quality Melodic Rock release with good female vocals, impressive keyboardwork and it's a must if you're into any of the mentioned bands. MORRIGAN 'CHRONIQUES D'ICI
BAS' (INDEPENDENT) MORRIGAN is an excellent French Neo-prog rockband. Their CD 'Chroniques d'ici bas' is an excellent high quality Neo-prog album in the style of JADIS, PENDRAGON, and early MARILLION The album has a great sound and a fantastic production. There are 7 tracks on the album, and they are all very impressive. The playing length of the songs is between 5 and 8 minutes, so in the end the CD counts 50 minutes of music. Although the songs are sung in the French language, that isn't disturbing at all. Hard to pick favourites, because all the songs are very good. Songs like "Questions", "Terronirisme", "Le voyageur immobile" and "Et il parait que nous n'avons qu'une vie" are very impressive pure Neo-prog rocksongs like PENDRAGON and early MARILLION. The band also sent me a demo CDR with 3 new songs, these are "Funambule", "Perseverare diabolicum" and "Refrain d'enfance", a bit calmer 70s orientated Progressive rock, but again pretty nice. The best song of these 3 new tunes is definitely "Perseverare diabolicum", a great semi-prog ballad with a nice 'jungle' break. MORRIGAN is an easy winner for fans of Neo-prog a la JADIS, PALLAS, PENDRAGON, MARILLION More info at: http://morrigan.fr.fm and e-mail at: mprog_morrigan@club-internet.fr or francis.reix@chello.fr Rating: 8,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
ROCK GODDESS 'HELL HATH NO FURY'
(ATM RECORDS) The German re-issue label ATM RECORDS released this CD some time ago, but recently it has been made available again. 'Hell hath no fury' was the second album of all-female rockers ROCK GODDESS, a hard-hitting melodic hardrockband from the UK. Musically it is in the same style as GIRLSCHOOL, although at times ROCK GODDESS sounded much more melodic. The best songs on the album were "No more", "In the night", "I've seen it all before" and "The visitors are here", all uptempo hard-hitting melodic rockers. This is a total must for fans of the band, as this re-issue also comes with some nice pics of the girls and features a well-written story about a band that existed between 1977 and 1987. CRUZ DE HIERRO 'CRUZ DE HIERRO'
(MUSEA RECORDS) CRUZ DE HIERRO is a Mexican Progressive Rock/Metal band and they have released their debut CD on MUSEA RECORDS, the French Progressive Rocklabel. The band consists of 7 (!) bandmembers, of which 2 different lead singers. Musically CRUZ DE HIERRO is playing high quality melodic progressive rock/metal. There are 9 songs on the CD, of which 3 are instrumental, but are perfectly placed between the 6 vocal tracks, so you don't even notice it when playing the whole CD, as the style of those instrumentals is also excellent Progressive rock. I really have to add that this is an excellent band. Just listen to the first song "Key 2: The last warning", which is split in 4 parts and has a playing length of 10 minutes, this is a fantastic progressive rock/metal song with excellent guitar riffs, keyboardplay and harmonies, just about everything you need to hear in a high quality progressive rocksong! And actually the whole CD is filled with high quality progressive rock/metal pieces, of which my favourites are "A place in heaven" (powerful AORish prog ballad with impressive vocals), "Renaissanse" (excellent prog rock) and "Leaves by the road" (best song, lovely progressive melodic rocker, with DREAM THEATER influences). There's not a single weak moment on this CD and I can easily recommend it to fans of melodic progressive rock/metal (style: EVERON, SHADOW GALLERY, SYLVAN ). Check out their site at: http://www.cruzdehierro.net and e-mail them at: guardians@emailchoice.com Rating: 8,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
SHEBANG 'FRUIT OF THE EARTH'
(DEMO CDR) SHEBANG comes out of Florida and consists of MICHAEL PERRY and C. MANGSEN. They sent me their demo CDR 'Fruit of the earth'. The sound isn't that good, and also vocally the band sounds a bit average. Happily, not all the included songs are bad, especially "You" (quirky progressive rocker) and "For you" (great calmer prog ballad a la THE FLOWER KINGS) are pretty nice. On the other hand, there are also many fillers on the CD, such as the short acoustic instrumentals "Etude de Christoff" and "Microfugue", as well as the acoustic ballads "Fruit of the earth" and "I'll be the one". It would be much more interesting to see SHEBANG moving into a more Rock approach, with electric guitars and still the melodic vocal lines of songs like "For you". Check out their site at: http://www.shebang.com and e-mail them at: sevenx3@mpinet.net Rating: 6,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
DEMON DRIVE 'ROCK AND ROLL STAR'
(POINT MUSIC) Vocalist/guitarist MICHAEL VOSS
from Germany played in the 80s in the band MAD MAX, while
the early 90s he formed the band CASANOVA with whom he
released 3 albums. In the meantime, Michael had formed
another band with BONFIRE guitarist Angel Schleifer,
named DEMON DRIVE. With that band he has so far released
2 albums, of which the latest release 'Heroes' is
actually the same 'Heroes' album released under the
moniker CASANOVA, only with 8 new tracks and the best
songs of the original CASANOVA release re-recorded. So
that's how CASANOVA became DEMON DRIVE. And now DEMON
DRIVE has released its 3rd CD, entitled 'Rock and roll
star'. The CD has been out for a month now through the
German label POINT MUSIC. Although musically it is a
continuation of the band's previous releases, I still
have to add that not Especially at the start
of the CD, there are some average heavy rocksongs, such
as "The other side", "Testify",
"Rock and roll star" and the KISS cover
"Sure know something". I am not saying these
are bad performed songs, but it's just that they are not
as melodic as DEMON DRIVE used to be. Happily, there are
still plenty songs that do capture the classic DEMON
DRIVE sound, such as "Do ya?" (catchy uptempo
melodic rocker like JOVI meets BONFIRE), "You're my
home" (another good uptempo melodic rocker),
"Renegade" (nice semi melodic rocker), the SUZI
QUATRO cover "She's in love with you" (sounds
like DAYTONA, DOMINOE, and is a duet with LEE AARON!) and
closing track "Hair parade" The beginning of the CD is not that impressive, but happily later on the CD DEMON DRIVE finds their way to the classic German melodic hardrock sound again. A must if you're into CASANOVA, BONFIRE, MAD MAX, VICTORY More info at: http://www.demondrive.com and e-mail them at: jochen@demondrive.de Rating: 7,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
JJC 'HEART SHAPED TEARS'
(INDEPENDENT) Multi-instrumentalist JOE CRAIG comes out of Pennsylvania and he is the man behind the project JJC. He sent me a CD with 8 original tracks he recorded, and the idea of releasing this disc has been in Joe's mind since 1987! Now he has released the CD and I must say it doesn't sound bad at all. Only the drum machine is a pity and also the voice of Joe isn't that strong, but further, the songs are pretty good and the use of guitars and keyboards on each and every song is very well done. Joe's influences include DREAM THEATER, QUEENSRYCHE and ROBERT PALMER, and he mixes Pop, Rock and New Age music. In the end, JJC sounds like a typical 80s typed AOR band. Sometimes, the music reminds me of VISION 180, JOE ROBINSON, 8084 and those sort of acts. Opener is the good midtempo AOR song "Heart shaped tears", not unlike JOE ROBINSON. Also next track "Dream in a nightmare world" is good quality midtempo AOR, a bit reminding me of ALDO NOVA this time. Then comes the semi AOR/Melodic rocker "You let my heart down", another good tune, somehow similar to MELODICA. The CD continues with the calmer acoustic ballad "Carolina sunrise". The following two songs are the good uptempo AOR rockers "It's not me" and "I wish I could love you again", both in the style of VISION 180 and HONEYMOON SUITE. The semi rocker "Time bomb" is one of the few songs that didn't do much for me. Closing track "Michelle's song" however is one of the best JJC songs, because this is a fantastic AOR ballad like JOURNEY. Although this isn't as good as the usual FRONTIERS RECORDS releases or a band like VISION 180, I can still recommend it to fans of 80s AOR. More info at: http://www.mp3.com/JJC and e-mail at: CJJCMMC@aol.com Rating: 8/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
HULDRA 'NESTE MORGENS LYS' (HULDRA RECORDS) HULDRA is a Norwegian AOR band and they have just released their debut CD, an excellent Classic piece of Scandi AOR, sung in the Norwegian language. HULDRA is not a new band, because they released under the monniker HEAVEN a fantastic much sought AOR CD entitled 'Take me back'. Anyway, now they are called HULDRA and this is their first release under that new name. The songs are almost all pure AOR, similar in style to BRETT WALKER's debut album and also acts like DAVINCI, HEAVEN, THOMAS VIKSTROM (very very much) come to mind when hearing HULDRA. There are 11 songs on the CD, and although the start of the album is a bit poppy and the band uses a lot of acoustic guitars, I can still say that this is one of the best Norwegian AOR releases in years! Especially towards the end of the album, it's all pure 80s AOR that can be heard. The band consists of vocalist Kenneth Pedersen, guitarist/bassist Tomi Pedersen and drummer Arnfinn Knutsen. Opener "Neste morgens lys" is a great calmer semi AOR ballad with a very melodic chorus and an updated sound, not unlike FOR ABSENT FRIENDS. The following two songs are the only tracks on the whole CD that sounded a bit weak, namely the calmer westcoast-AOR song "Me ska komma tebake" and the poppy "Naboens brod". The remaining 8 songs are all in the Classic AOR vein, with as best tracks "Nar eg dromme" (a la BRETT WALKER), "Pa byen" (catchy 80s fun uptempo melodic rocker), "Ei nye tid" (lovely short AOR ballad), "Mot ukjent hav" (fantastic midtempo AOR), "Kvite seil" (pretty good semi AOR ballad), "Alt du ser" (great AOR) and closing track "Pa dissa fjell" (fantastic semi AOR ballad). This is a really a great album and a must if you dig BRETT WALKER's debut, THOMAS VIKSTROM's solo CD and anything from bands like DAVINCI, HEAVEN, TREAT and the rest of the Classic Scandi-AOR sound. More info at: http://www.huldrarecords.no and you can buy the album through http://www.rockofnorway.com Soon an interview with the band! Rating: 9/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
PLAGUE 'PLAGUE'
(INDEPENDENT) Although released back in 1997, this Norwegian band is still interesting to discuss, because PLAGUE had some great melodic rocksongs on their debut. The band featured a very good lead singer called Alf Vesterelv and ex- DAVINCI Drummer Jarle Maaloy was one of the members, so this is an interesting band for Scandi Rockfans to check out. Unlike many other Scandi AOR bands, PLAGUE had more or less an updated sound, while still keeping enough melodies to please the fan of Scandi AOR. There were 9 songs on the band's CD from 1997. Somehow they reminded me of the Irish band BIG GENERATOR (whatever happened to those guys!) and also a similar band is BALTIMOORE. Anyway, the CD starts with the melodic poprocker "Shine", a nice melodic song with a slight updated sound approach. The following 3 songs are very good, namely the great melodic rocker "Anybody there?", the catchy uptempo melodic AOR rocker "After forever" and the very good semi AOR ballad "Wilder days". The weak groovy rocker "Lady tangerine" is the first let-down on the CD, but is happily followed by the pure 80s orientated uptempo fun AOR rocker "Behind those eyes". Then we get to hear two weak songs, the 90s orientated "Hunger visions" and the slow ballad "Shapes". The CD closes very impressive, with the fantastic 80s typed uptempo AOR rocker "Blindfolded" (very fun track, a la CHANGE OF HEART and SUGARTOWN - remember them?). A few ups and downs, but in general, this PLAGUE is another interesting Norwegian AOR/Melodic Poprockband. I don't know what they have done since the release of this CD, but if you see it somewhere in a bargain bin, then don't hesitate and buy it. You can buy the album through http://www.rockofnorway.com Rating: 8/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
PARBER AND KERSTEIN 'STORIES FROM THE HEART' (TARGET RECORDS) The Danish duo PARBER AND KERSTEIN released their only album back in 1990, but because it was a collector's item for years, it has now been picked up by TARGET RECORDS who re-ossied the album onto CD and added 1 bonustrack. The duo consists of vocalist/keyboardplayer Jan Parber and guitarist Jes Kerstein, both have gained a lot of success in their native country Denmark, mainly as part of the danish section of the Euro Music Awards. This album they released back in 1990 is a classic piece of Scandi AOR in the best 80s tradition. Former SKAGARACK member Morten Munch produced the album. There are 13 tracks on the CD and it really is a must if you're into pure AOR, with clear influences from TOTO, SKAGARACK, GIANT and GLASS TIGER. The CD starts with "Keep on waiting", a good fun midtempo melodic rocker a la SKAGARACK, TREAT The great midtempo AOR song "You could be the last" follows and is reminding me a lot of 80s STARSHIP. Then comes the lovely radio polished classic 80s Power AOR ballad "I'll love you forver", which is in the style of the ballads made by REO SPEEDWAGON, LOVERBOY, ALIAS A little less interesting, but still very 80s is the poprocker "Talk too much" (HAYWIRE meets GLASS TIGER). "Love don't come easy" is up next, and this is great midtempo AOR a la GIANT. "Open up your heart" is another lovely Power AOR ballad. "The world keeps on turning" and "Give it from the heart" are both great midtempo AOR tunes. These songs and also "Moving in circles" are moving into the style of STRANGEWAYS circa late 80s, although the last mentioned song is sadly disturbed by a saxsolo. "In your eyes" then again is another wonderful slice of pure AOR. The CD continues with the calmer AOR ballad "Angel". Closing track is the bonustrack "Once in a lifetime", a poppy AOR song with a saxsolo. If you're keen on pure 80s AOR with a lot of keys, hooks and harmonies, kinda like ROKBOX, SKAGARACK, TOTO, SAYIT, LOVERBOY and also a bit 80s STRANGEWAYS, well then you're on the right spot with this re-issue of PARBER AND KERSTEIN through http://www.Target-records.de Rating: 8,5/10 by Gabor Kleinbloesem)(Review |
VITAL SIGN 'VITAL SIGN' (POL
MUSIK) This is the latest new sensation from the Swedish AOR/Melodic Rockscene. VITAL SIGN come out of the same area that brought us bands like STREET TALK, WOLVERINE, TAD MOROSE and MORGANA LEFAY, 4 great bands and now we can add VITAL SIGN as the fifth band from an area where only 50,000 people live. VITAL SIGN features vocalist Jens Lundvik from B.I.G. and bassist Po Larsson from XT (Christian AOR band that released a couple of albums) amongst others. The band's same titled debut CD is filled with Classic Christian Melodic Rock, similar in style to bands like VU, SURE CONVICTION, NOUVEAUX, early GUARDIAN, STRYPER but I also hear clear similarities to MICHAEL MORALES and BRIAN MCDONALD. This VITAL SIGN is really a great new AOR/Melodic Rockband, easily recommended to anyone reading this review. There are 10 songs on the CD, and it all starts with the pure 80s (keys!) uptempo classic Scandi Melodic Rocker "Welcome to the party", a great song a la SHA-BOOM (remember them?). Then comes the fantastic HUGE midtempo AOR/Melodic Rocker "Wherever you go" (like SURE CONVICTION, first NOUVEAUX, MICHAEL MORALES, BRIAN MCDONALD, also features a terrific keyboardsolo). "Never hide" is nothing that special, plain hardrock. Then comes the lovely Power Melodic Rockballad "You died in my place", very much like the classic SURE CONVICTION album 'Get ready'. Then we're moving into the style of NOUVEAUX's classic debut album 'Beginnings' with the great midtempo melodic rocker "Lead my way". The CD continues with the fantastic melodic rocker "Give your life", a song with a catchy chorus and a sound dangerously close to the classic sound of STRYPER and early GUARDIAN. Next track "Hold on tight" is a catchy uptempo 80s AOR rocker (hello CRY HOLY!). "I'm a soldier" is one of the few weaker Hardrocksongs on the CD. Then comes the calmer AOR ballad "Sweet lord". The CD closes with the cheerful uptempo 80s inspired melodic rocker "Hallelujah", unfortunately the weak 'Gospel' chorus spoils the song a bit. Nevertheless, this band is a big recommendation to fans of Classic Christian Melodic Rock, but also if you liked the recent releases of MICHAEL MORALES and BRIAN MCDONALD, you might find something of interest on this VITAL SIGN CD. THRONE OF THOR 'THE TRUTH REVEALED'
(DEMO PROMO 2001) This Norwegian is making their debut with the 3-track demo CDR 'The truth revealed'. Musically they are described as a cross between SYMPHONY X and BLIND GUARDIAN. Especially opener "Till the gates of Valhalla" also proves that this is indeed the sound they are playing, progressive power metal with very good guitarplay (a la MALMSTEEN) and even a nice keyboardsolo. A nice start, and although ranking in the BLIND GUARDIAN/SYMPHONY X style, it is a few levels lower, but still enjoyable to listen to if you're into this type of melodic metal. "The truth revealed" follows and is a faster melodic power metal song a la HEAVENLY. The last track is the progressive metal tune "Within this magic circle". This band is highly recommended to fans of Progressive Power Metal. STRANGEWAYZ 'DEMO CDR' (DEMO
CDR) Not to be confused with legendary Scottish AORsters STRANGEWAYS, nope, this STRANGEWAYZ comes out of Libertytown, a small town in the USA. Their demo CDR consists of 4 tracks and musically they are mixing up 80s LA Party Metal with today's Metal format. Opener "Bleed" is a nice piece of Party Metal a la LA GUNS, RATT, CRUE, but with a slight 90s approach and an ALICE COOPER similar typed singer. The following two songs ("Chemical" and "Hero") are both nothing special and 90s Metal orientated. Closing track "My way" is a KISS cover, nicely done. Check out the site of the band at: http://www.strangewayz.net and e-mail them at: StrngWyz@aol.com Rating: 6,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
DREAM OR NIGHTMARE 'DEMO CDR' (DEMO
CDR) This Ohio settled band is playing Progressive
Metal, but the vocals of singer Javier Colon are giving
DREAM OR NIGHTMARE's music a very modern touch, which may
appeal to some of you, but not to everyone. "The
phoenix will rise" is a nice Progressive Metal song,
but the other songs are just too much based on 90s Metal,
and don't have enough melody to Another interestinng note is the fact that guitarist JOE SIMS is doing a great job as guitarplayer for the band, because his riffs are very impressive. He also has a lot of experience within the metal scene, as he has played with bands like AXEMASTER, THE AWAKENING and REIGN the past decade and now he has his own band DREAM OR NIGHTMARE. BYFIST 'ADRENALIN' (SABA
RECORDS) The Texas settled band BYFIST is not a new band, because they recorded a bunch of singles and EP's back in the late 80s. In the early 90s the band slowly dissapeared, but now they are back and signed with the label SABA RECORDS. This label has re-released the band's latest EP 'Adrenaline', which was originally released in 1989. There are 4 tracks on the album and it has a crystal clear production by David Wayne (METAL CHURCH) and Joe Floyd (WARRIOR) who did a great job back then. This also makes me think of those 80s days when so many major band members started producing records of smaller bands, something which doesn't happen that much anymore. Anyway, the BYFIST sound was typical 80s US Power Metal, a bit like RIOT, RAVEN, LIZZY BORDEN mixed with some PRIEST and even hints of the very first CRUE album. Opener "Eternal damnation" is a good example of the 80s US metal sound with high-pitched vocals, a very good song like RIOT. Next track "Meltdown" is a faster metal song like PRIEST meets RIOT. "Left to die" somewhat reminds me of LIZZY BORDEN and JACK STARR. Closing track "Mary celeste" is one of the best BYFIST songs, a great RIOT typed melodic metal song that even has some similarities to that first CRUE classic (and that album was not some average Glamrockalbum, but a classic in the Party Metal genre). BYFIST is back with this new release and let's hope a new release will follow the same style they created back in the 80s. This is a must for anyone into 80s US Power Metal a la RIOT, HELSTAR, ANVIL, RAVEN More info at: http://www.byfist.com and e-mail them at: sabarecords2000@yahoo.com Rating: 7,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
ERIC STORM 'MEASURING STICK FOR
COOL'
(TNA RECORDS) Vocalist ERIC STORM comes out of Dallas, Texas and he has been active in the music business for quite some time now. He played with the bands THE POZERS and BLIND SIDE, but now has gone solo. He sent me 2 albums. The first one is 'I'm sure you've heard it all before', a CD with 6 covers, all performed very well by Eric and the involved musicians. I really like Eric's way of singing, which is melodic and rough at the same time, he does a great job covering CRUE's "Piece of your action", CHEAP TRICK's "Surrender" and "KISS' "Got to choose", getting pretty close to the original version. Anyway, the other CD is called 'Measuring stick for cool' and this new album contains 4 original tracks of Eric. The first song "Dreamer" is a great catchy 80s typed uptempo melodic rocker with a very nice harmonic chorus, similar in style to DOKKEN, WHITE LION, STRYPER No wonder I can give these comparisons, because the song was written in 1989! Anyway, it still sounds fresh and very good, a must if you're into classy (and cheesy) 80s typed US melodic rock! The CD continues with "Fade into the new", a nice semi melodic rockballad a la DANGER DANGER, this song was written in 1994. "Turn me on" follows and is a live recording with THE POZERS, Eric's former band, the song itself being a nice 'Poser' Hardrock song (a la TESLA, GREAT WHITE). Closing track is a live
track Eric performed with BLIND SIDE back in 1995, namely
the good Sleazy/Party Hardrocksong "Cobain's
shotgun", reminding me of SKID ROW. Best song is
definitely "Dreamer" and more songs in this
style on a future recording would be a wise step for
Eric, on the other hand, most of his songs are pretty
good, so there's definitely Rating: 7,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
FACE FACE 'CHILDHOOD DREAMS'
(MULLER MUSIC) FACE FACE was the forerunner of PURPLE CROSS, a great Swiss AOR band I featured last year. Now that first album, which was released under the monniker FACE FACE, has been re-released and made available again for a lot of European countries. A good decision, because the music on 'Childhood dreams' is filled with excellent 80s type of AOR. This CD has the perfect 80s (a bit Scandirock) AOR/Melodic Rocksound, not unlike SURVIVOR, JOURNEY, but also some clear similarities to TREAT and RETURN can be made. My favourite tracks are the stunning uptempo AOR songs "Two of us" (a la SURVIVOR), "Save the night", "It's magic" and "Screamin'", but also the rest is very good, such as the midtempo AOR of opening tune "Up to you". The sound and production quality is from a very high level and this CD can easily be seen as one of the top releases in the European AOR scene. DEGA 'DEMO CDR'
(INDEPENDENT) What can you expect from a band out of India (!), which is described as BON JOVI meets SAVATAGE (!). Well, that was the info I had on this band called DEGA. This threesome sent me a 4-track demo CDR. Of course you cannot compare this album with any release done in Europe and the USA, because the quality of this demo is not from a high quality. Vocally it's also a bit average and the quirky melodic poprock of DEGA reminds me of ROBERT JANSEN, whose music I reviewed several years ago. The guitar and keyboardparts however are very good and quite impressive, but the sound of DEGA is just too thin, I miss some pumping bass and drums. Songs like "Love is a feeling" and "live to die" are good songs, but they need to have a bigger sound to attract people. Dega showcases music that can be produced from home with a very small budget. Well, all I can say is that check out the first Indian melodic rockband for yourself, because all their songs are available for free download at: http://www.mp3.com/dega and e-mail them at: dega@eth.net Rating: 6,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
EZY MEAT 'NOT FOR WIMPS'
(IRON PAGES RECORDS) This is like a dream come true for collectors of underground bands from the N.W.O.B.H.M. days, because North Ireland based EZY MEAT was one of the hundreds of UK bands that survived the big bang of UK Metal bands around 1980, and would go on releasing records in the years to follow. These albums however were hard to get back then, and now they are pure collector's items, where people pay a few hundred dollars to get the original LP release. IRON PAGES RECORDS is a new German label and they are going to release a lot of such collector's items from the 80s Metal scene. The first release is the 1984 debut album of EZY MEAT called 'Not for wimps'. This re-issue also contains 6 unreleased bonustracks, so that's about 70 minutes of music on one disc, definitely worth your money!. Musically EZY MEAT played pure early 1980s Melodic Hardrock/Heavy Rock, like a mixture between THIN LIZZY and UFO. The CD contains 16 tracks in total and the booklet features extend written liner notes, with all sorts of interesting info and articles. The best songs are the uptempo Hardrockers "Freedom seeker" (pure UFO circa "Doctor doctor"), "The loner" (a la THIN LIZZY), "Vampire lady" (great Hardrock), "Shoot out in the city" (hello THIN LIZZY!) and the URIAH HEEP typed heavy rocker "Go". IRON PAGES will also re-issue EZY MEAT's second and last album 'Rock your brains' from 1986 pretty soon and again with 6 additional unreleased bonustracks, so that's something to look out for. Now, if you're into typical 80s UK Melodic Hardrock a la TRESPASS, THIN LIZZY, MAM'S BOYS, SARACEN, STAMPEDE then you will love EZY MEAT. TIRED TREE 'CHANGING SIDES'
(INDEPENDENT) 'Changing sides' is the advanced CDR of the upcoming full-length album release of TIRED TREE, a project I reviewed some time ago. There's only one man behind TIRED TREE, his name is Mattias Holmgren and he did almost everything on his own (music, lyrics, production, all instruments, vocals etc.), so he is definitely a talented musician. Musically TIRED TREE is also very good in what they do, because this CD is filled with high quality melodic Neo-progressive rock that reminds me a lot of JADIS. From the included 12 tracks I couldn't find anything weak, it's all great what we can hear on the album of TIRED TREE. My favourite songs are "Changing sides", "Returned to leave" (hello JADIS!), "Tiredtree", "Final chime" and "More than a story". If you're into today's modern Neo-progressive rockstyle (JADIS, FOR ABSENT FRIENDS), then do check out this fantastic one-man band from Sweden, TIRED TREE at: http://www.tiredtree.se and e-mail him at: starfall@passagen.se Mattias is looking for a record deal, so labels get in touch with this man a.s.a.p., because you don't want to pass on the lovely music of such a talented man! Rating: 8,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
TORMAN MAXT 'THE FOOLISHNESS OF
GOD' (MARS HILL RECORDS) TORMAN MAXT is a threesome from California and on their debut CD they have created an own unique style which is a mixture of 70s Progressive Pomprock (ZEBRA meets RUSH) and today's way of singing (in the poprock genre, like MATCHBOX 20/CREED). Basically what you get is a sound that sometimes will attract fans of ZEBRA and RUSH, but at other times it moves a lot in the US rockstyle of today. Anyway, the CD contains 12 songs, but is split in 4 parts and has lyrically a lot to offer (so another interesting thing for progressive rockfans to check out this band). Opener "Vanity explored" is a nice 70s type of progressive pomprock (KANSAS, STYX, RUSH), but next track "Ghost town" is a bit more experimental and 90s orientated. The following 3 songs are the best songs on the CD, namely the progressive melodic rockers "City of man" (a la TRIUMPH), "The stage" and "Space and time". The next couple of tracks are o.k., but nothing too special, of which "The china song" will appeal to fans of ZEBRA. The best song is maybe closing track "The foolishness of God", a 10-minute counting track that is pure Progressive Rock, very much like Classic RUSH. So, in the end I think this band is much recommended to fans of 70s Progressive Rock, but be aware that there are also some modern influences slipped through TORMAN MAXT' music (mainly in the vocal parts). More info at: http://www.tormanmaxt.com and e-mail at: tony@marshillstudio.com Rating: 7,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
EMPYRIA 'THE LEGACY'
(NIGHTMARE RECORDS) This is the third release from
Canadian rockers EMPYRIA. In 1996 they released their
debut 'Behind closed doors' on Noise Records, two years
later they put out 'Changing currents' independent (!)
and now they are signed to Nightmare Records for whom
they just released their new album 'The legacy'.
Musically they are playing a mixture of 80s Hard Rock,
Progressive Metal and melodic rock. The best songs are
"The grand illusion" (80s Hard Rock, a la LIZZY
BORDEN), "Synchronicty 2" (good melodic chorus)
and above all, the hidden track that comes after the
final track "Years behind". This hidden song is
a great 80s typed uptempo melodic rocker that sounds a
bit like WINTER ROSE (James LaBrie's former band). If
they could make some more songs like this track, then
EMPYRIA would be a very interesting melodic rockband.
Nevertheless, still they put out quality material and if
you want to hear a mixture of 80s Hard Rock and 90s
Progressive Metal (LIZZY BORDEN Rating: 7,5/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
CATCHIN' 22 'CAN'T STEAL OUR
SPIRIT' (NIGHTMARE RECORDS) This Canadian band's CD 'Can't steal our spirit' was produced by Simon Pressey (RUSH, BRYAN ADAMS, SHANIA TWAIN). Musically they play a mixture of groovy 80s melodic hardrock and 90s melodic poprock, and forgive me saying that I wasn't too happy with their average lead singer (Paul Souza). Also not all their songs are that good, but happily the production is very good and also the instruments are well used. The best songs are "N.Y.C." (nice semi melodic rocker), "You said" (nice uptempo 80s melodic rocker) and the semi-ballad "Since you've been gone". But mainly I found CATHIN' 22 not such an impressive band, towards the end of the CD, the band even included some Party Metal orientated songs a la SKID ROW ("Harder" and "Now"). Closing track "Payin' your dues" even reveals some Punk (!) influences. This is a very diverse band, and recommended if you want to hear more than your typical 80s Hardrock. Rating: 7/10 (Review by Gabor Kleinbloesem) |
MALICIOUS 'FROM CRADLE TO
GRAVE' (NIGHTMARE RECORDS) MALICIOUS is an American band,
but I don't have that much info, so I'll better be
talking about the music of these guys. They play a
somewhat updated 90s Metal style with a few Progressive
Metal influences, kinda like the last couple of albums of
QUEENSRYCHE and FATES WARNING. But there are more
influences to be heard on the band's debut (?) CD. The
production is very good (done by the band and BRIAN BART)
and towards the end we can even hear some very good
songs. The start though is very heavy, with such 90s
Metal orientated tracks like "Move on",
"B.D.G.V." (Industrial!) and the MEGADETH typed
"We are rolling". Happily, the rest is much
better, with melodic metal songs like "Mission of
mercy", "Between the lines" (bit like
TESLA with progressive metal influences) and "In
disguise" (nice melodic chorus, a la VAIN and SKID
ROW!). The best songs though can be find at the end,
namely the uptempo melodic hardrocksongs

UNCLE LIGHT 'RIGHT 4 LIGHT'
(DEMO CDR) Out of Wisconsin, USA comes this threesome, UNCLE LIGHT. This band has it's roots deep into the 70s, because their demo CDR 'Right 4 light' is filled with nicely performed 70s type of Bluesy Hardrock, a bit like BAD COMPANY, MOLLY HATCHET and BACHMAN TURNER OVERDRIVE. There are 9 songs on their CD and it's like if you love one song, then you will like them all! Most of the songs are uptempo and deal with Rock ("Ready 2 rock", "The king of rock and roll" and "Rock hard rock steady"). The band also does a cover of the 60s classic "Game of love". If you're into Bluesy 70s Hardrock, then you will love this! KING LIZZARD 'SONGS FROM THE 4TH
DEMENTIA' (ROUGH RIDER RECORDS) Out of Las Vegas comes KING LIZZARD, a project formed around multi-instrumentalist KING LIZZARD, with the help of lead singers Nick Domschott and Tara Shelton. There are 8 songs on the CD and although the music isn't bad, it's the very weak sound that sadly disturbs the enjoyment to listen to the album. I need to add that this is a demo, so let's hope an official CD of KING LIZZARD will have a better sound quality. Anyway, if we're not talking about the sound quality, and concentrate on the man's music I have to say that there are some nice tracks on the album, such as "Standing in the shadows" (70s Hard Rock a la KISS), "City lights" (great 80s AOR keyboard driven) and "Something wicked this way comes" (female fronted uptempo 80s orientated melodic rocker with very good guitarplay). A big dissapointment is the rap song "Living karma 3", horrible song. But if KING LIZZARD can do something about the sound quality and make more songs like "City lights" and "Something wicked this way comes", then it would definitely be quite interesting.
