i left my house looking forward to seeing ben folds five in a mere few hours that wonderful day of april 25, 1999. being my 3rd bf5 concert, and first that year... i was very excited. i went with my friends missy, dan, miranda, my sister, and my mother. we arrived at the university of ri just earlier enough so that we could grab spots in the front of the stage. positioned myself right in front of where robert sledge would be... and got even more excited. the lights go down and out comes the opening act... fleming and john. i had no clue what to excpet. fleming is in a bright pink corset and a huge bright green skirt. omg, she is amazing, she belts out the lyrics and its just gorgeous. i could not believe what i was seeing. the best opening act, EVER. i was in love with fleming and john. so in love that hell... i wasnt 'waiting' for ben folds five, like one would normally do during the opening act, i was enjoying fleming and john. and there started my new found love. luckily dan taped all of the show, including fleming and john. i listened to the fleming and john part of the tape more than the ben folds five part! (btw: ben folds five was incredible that night).



and then... october 27th rolls around and guess who i got tickets to see... ben folds five... and guess who is opening... FLEMING AND JOHN!!! yes yes yes. finally i can hear them again... after soley listening to that one boot of that one time i saw them. very excited i am. we get there. close to the front, in my special 'right-under-robert' spot. and who is in front of me? the wonderful girl i met online only a few weeks earlier, becky. (sweetest girl ever) this is her site fleming and john come on stage and hurah!!! there is the gorgeous beast ive been waiting to see again for so long! i was singing and dancing along to all the songs. i swear becky and i were the only ones. fleming kept coming over to us, turns out becky knows her quite well now...



when they are done playing fleming announces that she will be in the lobby... we hesitate, since we dont want to lose our close spots, but head towards the lobby anyways. and there she is! just standing there. she is as tall as me :) and becky walks right up to her and they talk, she gave her a birthday present and they talk a little and then becky goes 'so fleming this is my friend jessica!" and fleming puts out her hand and shakes mine and says nice to meet you. we talk a little and she talks to a few other people and then she shakes my hand again... i end up getting a hug from her at some point... oh... and before going... i ask for a picture ;)

oh boy i just met fleming!

and well... quite the experience that was. she was sooo sweet and sooo cute and just great! becky and i go back to our spots and enjoy a really good ben folds five show :) with fireworks!!!!!!
