Telani stood within a wooded grove upon a hill...a grove that lay within the former borders of The Dominion. Reports had continued to come in. The assault of Cuchulainn during the cease-fire had caused the resumption of bloody conflict, but this time, Inverness was not on the receiving end. Telani still knew naught of who commanded, who ruled, within the chaos-torn lands of The Dominion. and so he waited until a new leader did emerge. Such a leader would, in time, come to him. For the time being, the broken cease-fire and the violent deposing of the one who had treated with Inverness just and fair had been answer enough to Dominion's intentions. And as the reports continued to come in, more news from other fronts. Several realms had already torn down the banners of The Dominion. Some flew the banners of other Guilds, whilst others yet remained undeclared. To those who had departed before the cease-fire had ended, Inverness did spare and turn aside from. Telani called for Richard ManMeat to come before him in the field...there was a matter that must needs be attended to.

After a day's journey returning from Neris keep, Seren reached the outskirts of his land to find the carcases of his people and the flying banners of Inverness. He clinched his fists, and yelled into the open air. " This is an outrage, what about the cease-fire. " " Thy am sorry mi'lord. Thee could have withstood the force of one kingdom, but when the second joined them in their strike, we could not hold any longer. We have sustained heavy losses, and our allies within the Dominion were no where to be found." Seren, realizing the severity of the attacks, gave his orders to Rysahl. " Thy want you to gather the remaining of our armies, start rebuilding our forts, and get ready for Inverness to attack again." Seren turns to his messenger. " Thou must ride to the lands of Inverness immediately. Thy need thou to deliver a message." Seren begins to dictate to the messenger. With that said, the messenger take out a scroll and begins writing down Serens message. " To the leaders of Inverness. Our cease-fire has been broken, and thy
kingdom has not been in contact with the Dominion. Upon writing down the last words of Lord Seren, the messenger mounts his horse and rides into the darkness. Seren once again turns to his second. " Prepare your remaining troops Rysahl, thee should expect the worst." Lord Seren Dominion [This message has been edited by Seren (edited 11-10-99).] |

Again ManMeat approached the Great Dragon, as the clash of armour echoed in the distance. And, again, he approached in an un-Assassin like manner...head on, and in plain sight. How can I possibly kill all these heathens, if
the battle is far behind me. I must have a meeting with Telani,
about all of these meetings!!!!
ManMeat did not sheath his blood spattered blades on this meeting,
instead...
ssssswwwwWWWWWWwwwwwwwicka
he skillfully spun the blocking blade, in his left hand, from it's
normal 'defensive' position, to the more common 'attack'
style. He then spread his arms wide as he knelt down on one knee, allowing
the tips of the blades to just touch the blood soaked earth...

A sprite flew swiftly into the lands of Lord Seren...she bore another of the oaken leaves that were Telani's mark. The silken letters spelled out a missive to answer Lord Seren's own... Lord Seren,
Perhaps thou shouldst send to thy companion, Lord Cuchulainn for the
answer to the end of thy cease-fire. For, since the deposing of Lady
Neris, and since none of thine own messengers hath come forth, e'en after
Inverness waited with great patience, the outright and brutal assault of
Lord Cuchulainn spoke quite eloquently of the Dominion's intentions.
As well, I have had cause and opportunity to question those close to
the Lady Neris. All who spoke told of the defiance, the utter contempt and
certain opposition to the lawful agreement she had made with Inverness.
Had one own said otherwise, 'twould have given me pause to consider.
But one of these causes alone would have been enough for most, and yet
Inverness would have stayed it's hand. Taken together, they are proof
before Angelique that the Dominion seeks not the terms presented, but the
furtherance of war.
Thus does the Dominion receive what they sought.
If thou doth wish to enter into another discourse, on thy own behalf
or, shouldst thou hold such station, on behalf of The Dominion, I await
thy next missive.

Seren sits impatiently inside his castle walls. Unknowing of the fate of his kingdom, he knows it will be days before he hears from his messenger. Suddenly, something catches the corner of Seren's eye, a sprite flies over him, dropping an oaken leaf upon his lap. Seren unravels the leaf and finds silken threads, which upon further inspection, seem to form into words. Seren begins to read the message silently to himself. Upon finishing, he turns to the sprite and asks that it takes a message to Telani. The sprite nods, and Seren begins to speak. " Thy was unaware of the attacks on Lord Cuchulainn's lands following
the cease-fire. This is undoubtedly a dishonorable act, and it also
officially ends my allegiance to Dominion. Thy sought on a guild for
protection from the same force that now threatens thy kingdom. Thy made a
hasty decision, and am ashamed to have any doings with such a guild. Lady
Neris was unwise to involve us in your battles with Oathbound. And in
turn, Oathbound was unwise not to warn us about their suit for peace. Thy
have been betrayed by two fellow Barnabarians." Upon weaving the final pages, the sprite takes the leaves and flies out of Seren's keep. Lord Seren Dominion [This message has been edited by Seren (edited 11-10-99).] |

Telani turns his gaze upon Richard as he approaches. "Ah, Richard...back from the thick of the fighting,
no doubt. I would ask of thee...what news of the Lady Neris' domain? I
have given word that the armies of Inverness shall not set foot there, but
'tis said that there is civil strife aplenty."
"Should any among the peasantry, or among her loyal guardsmen, seek to
flee the lands and should they declare for her daughter, Rese, send the
order that they are to be conducted safely. A place has been set aside
where Rese may live, and those whom she cares about would be welcome there
as well."
"And Richard. Should thou have opportunity, I would sent to know if the
Lady Neris yet lives, and would be most grateful, should she survive, to
have chance to meet with her mineself."

"Lord Seren doth acknowledge the error of both
the Dominion and of the OathBound in their past acts."
"He also accepts his own part in aiding in the Dominion's acts."
"Lord Seren, an independant lord, doth ask for peace from
Inverness." Telani listens, and nods.
"Take unto him these words."
"Inverness has had much cause to question the acts of the Dominion of

"I shall send scouts to confirm that thou doth no longer fly the banner

Polgaria glanced up and down the men gathered before him. Their faces were pensive. You all know why the gathering here hast taken
place. The barbaric forces of Dominion once have been put down, mayhap it
be time for thus again. I need from all of you a status report on thy
areas, my Lords. We are to prepare for the day Inverness shall triumph
again! Polgaria proclaimed hoarsly, and he
believed he was coming down with a cold from his prior drenching.
One by one, his Lords and Barons read off various status reports of
Polgaria's kingdom. It wasn't as good as he expected it to be.
Methinks Telani won't be very happy with this. I
be a sorce, but I lack the Magick Circles to be of much of
use! Polgaira mused to himself.
He found his thoughts returning to Leetah. Polgaria wondered how she
was.....someone was saying something to him, but he didn't hear it. A fist
pounded on the table before him, breaking Polgaira out of his thoughts.
M'Lord, thou canst not be seriously considering
going to war with these heathens again??! We are no where near equipped to
engage in battle. Thou mightest me a powerful sorcerer, but thou dost lack
the source of any of thine powers! one of
Polgaira's military leaders said.
Pol just looked at him. Thou saw with thine own
eyes what they did do to our lands, to our families. If thou dost feel
that shying away from these heathens is right, then so be it.
The soldier looked at him in thought for a moment, and sat back
down. Garion, cometh here. I am in need of sending a
missive to Telani. I do believe thou dost know where to find
him. Polgaria said over his shoulder to the
boy, who had been slouched in a corner. Garion stood up.
Make sure this gets to the Dragon with all due
haste. Polgaria rold him, handing Garion a
parchment.

such treachery. They used us to attack the innocent lands of Inverness,

all activities involving them." Lord Seren looks angrily at the bishop and speaks, " Where was your "god" when my people were being murdered, where was he when I begged for his help. Gather your priests, for you will go before my people and denounce all faith in Barnabas. Tell the people how Barnabas has abandoned us in our time of need. And that we must look elsewhere for our faith. Thy will rebuild this land, and neither Barnabas nor the Dominion will have part in it!" Lord Seren

Neris waited. She had been kneeling in front of the altar, sitting on her heels, for what seemed like days but could only have been a few hours. Her legs had cramped, but she stayed in that position, ready.. ..waiting. She had unsheathed her sword and held it, point grinding into the cracks between the stones of the floor, in front of her. She stared into the fire on the altar, burning brightly red and gold. The light of the fire had reddened her face slightly and the incense had permeated her clothing and her hair, making her look and smell like a priestess. She had been listening to the sounds of the fighting outside and within the keep, so loud above the contemplative crackle of the flames on the altar. It seemed that her decision had riven her kingdom into two unequal parts: the smaller was trying to regain order on her behalf, the larger trying to make its way to her and kill her. She wondered how long it would take for someone to make their way here, sword in hand, and dispatch her. She wondered if Rese was safe. A while ago, the flames on the altar had danced uneasily, shrinking down then leaping higher than usual, as if some strange magic were at work in the keep. Neris had entertained the idea that the magic had been Barnabas coming to put to rights all that was wrong in her kingdom, or even that someone had come to retrieve her daughter, as unlikely as that was. Finally, the waiting became to much, and she stood up, stretching her aching muscles, walking to her desk and setting her sword across it. She took her seat behind it, slid a piece of parchment to its center, picked up the pen, and began to write. To Telani, Dragon of Inverness:
I had expected to be long dead before now, but I take the blessing of a
few more moments of life to write to you this letter.
As you might know from your scouts, The Dominion is in chaos. On a
smaller scale, my kingdom has been torn in two. A small group yet fights
for the lady they swore allegiance to so long ago, when I took the throne
from my ailing mother. The larger part fights to find me and bring me
death, ending the reign of their "weak" lady and raising up whoever has
been ambitious enough to take charge of them, if anyone has yet done that.
I hope my daughter, Rese, reaches you in safety and that you receive
her into your guild. She has progressed to an intermediate level in her
training as a warrioress and a general and has shown some aptitude for
magic. She is bright and holds steadfast to the principles of honor and
war that I have tried to teach her; she does her mother great credit.
Please, tell her that I am proud of her and that I love her very much.
I am sorry that what could have brought an end to fighting in our
respective lands has brought nothing but more bloodshed and hatred.
Neris She started to write her titles, but changed her mind. She poured wax
from the candle at the side onto the parchment and pressed her personal
seal into it.
Neris rolled the paper and rose from her seat, walking to the cage by
the window. A small, dancing fire-spirit leaped out of the cage and onto
the sill, bouncing eagerly. She smiled softly and placed the parchment
within its grasp.
"Take this to Telani, in the lands of Inverness, please, and do not
return. You remember my daughter, Rese?" The creature nodded, the
flames that made its body rose higher. "She is in his care. After you
deliver this message, serve her as you have served me. Behave, little one,
and carry this to its destination promptly. And don't burn it."
The fire-spirit shrieked its laugh and leapt through the windows she
opened for it, vanishing in a puff of smoke.
Neris returned to her chair and continued waiting for death.

Another messenger approaches. "Lord Telani, I bear a missive from Lord Schtick.
His sorcerous might 'twas hurled against the lands of Lord Darkmoore."
"The first strike had been mighty indeed, but upon his return, the
realm was enwrapped in an impenatrable sheild. None can enter in, or step
out of it."
"What are thy orders, milord?" "Send word to Schtick...the realm is to be
besieged. Continue thy assaults on a regular basis, and be prepared, the
moment the shield fails, to crush the land utterly."
Telani was amazed...what more would come about before this war with the

ManMeat had taken Talani's instructions and immediately went about the task of fetching one of his most trusted of basislisk guards...for he so wished to return himself to the task of spilling oceans of heathen blood. But then he considered the Great Dragons words... Should thou have opportunity, I would sent to know if the Lady Neris
yet lives..." "Grrrrrrrrrrruuuhhhhhhh!! This is too
important!!" He travelled not, in the way that would have him arrive at his
destination in seconds...through the air as a thin dark mist, or as a high
arcing black tendrill...instead he ran close to the ground,
occassionally touching it, as he sought out Neris. He saw many of his
fellow warriors knee, and BLADE, deep in the heathen's besieged ranks
along the way. He, several time, lent the occassional hand as he
skittered by, nearly invisible, since his movements were so rapid.
However, his fellow warriors may have had some inkling of what would have
just occured, when they saw a shadowy streak fly passed...heard the
high pitched whistle of a slaaaaaaaaAAAAAAAAAAAAssssssssssssshhh!...and as several heathen heads tumble to the ground
near them.
ManMeat had sensed where she could be found, for as he neared he
had detected her powerful aural... Along the long wall and cieling...
Passed the alter...
Thru the air and down the center of another long hall...
Along the edge of the rug, in a room of red...
Underneath, and behind the chair...
Then he changed, as he slowly stood up, and then taps her on her shoulder...
"Greetings...you must be Neris..."

Victory. Kllan's power was swiftly growing as he led these wedging raids into the Dominion's lands. As he cut down, by means of magic or might, the opposing shock troops, and removed from the shadows the thieves in Dominion pay, his feast of souls gained another course. Soon, he would be almost God-like, himself. Never, Kllan. Your power is now great, greater than this land has seen in a long time, but never will you hold a like title. "You don't sound too sure of that, godling. Perhaps your gift was a little bit too generous?" Tittering laughter, followed by the winking out of Loki's conciousness from his mind, was Kllan's only reply. Undaunted, Kllan returned to his task, lifting great legions of dead, and causing them to assail the living troops that remained. If he could feed from the screams of the living troops during this spell, he would already be a God. As it was, it made him a happy necromancer.

Neris sat in her chair, staring at the altar across the room but not seeing it, lost in thought. The world stopped existing for her, beyond the sound of her own heartbeat and the sight of the dancing flames. The light touch on her shoulder startled her out of her reverie; she jumped, but stayed seated and facing the altar. She made no move to reach her sword, lying just a short distance away on the front edge of her desk. A voice spoke to her, entirely unfamiliar. "Greetings...you must be Neris..."
Even though it was likely that she wouldn't recognize the voice of
whichever rebel finally made it to her study to dispatch her, she guessed
that this wasn't one of her subjects.
She was surprised that her body wasn't betraying her by shaking, and
when she spoke her voice was strong and clear, without a hint of a
quaver.
"I am Neris."
She turned her head to the side, making her chin parallel to the
line of her shoulders, looking at the hand resting there.
"And you would be?"

Jetriot of LDG flies over the realm of the former great power Dominion. He looks at the fires that have been started everywhere and at the mass graveyards that have been recently dug. This must be stoped.
Jetriot had received the message earlier that day. Somthing
...unexpected had happened. There was a heathen with honor, pride, and
goodness in her heart. The one known as Nerris had given up many of her
members trust to do what was right. This was a rarity indeed and not just
for a heathen. This all could have been avoided if it wernt for OB's
incompetence. OB carlessly threw away not only the lives of their enemies
but the lives of their allies as well. That was why OB must be punished,
and they were being punished. LDG was steping in to deal Angelican justice
to the guild of OB, and justice would be dealt.
Its tempting to go in their and pay my respects to
such a great leader..... perhaps I will.
Jetriot swoops down to the ground into a nearby grove where he casts a
spell of invisibility upon himself. He then proceeds to walk carefully,
avoiding the bodies of the dead, towards the keep. The outside of the keep
was unscathed and the battle had not yet reached it. Jetriot slipped in
unnoticed and walks silently towards the throne room where he comes across
a very unexpected scene.

ManMeat noted the calm in Neris's voice and actions, and realized that he knew THIS particular behavior well for he had seen it many times before...in the faces and eyes of untold heathens that he had slain. He himself had actually experienced it once, through it's ENTIRETY, not long before this most recent blood letting. It was the calm reserved for those whom new that DEATH was near. hmmm...no wonder I was able to locate her aura,
and HER, so easily...
He sighed to himself...
How one so powerful, and with such honor, be so
sad...and defeated.
Not only were all the lands of Dominion staring death in it's face, but
likewise Neris seemed well prepared to die, and, if he be not mistaken...
appeared welcoming of it.
"I am Richard ManMeat...Assassin of Inverness...and
I am come by order of the Great Dragon of Inverness, Telani, to first...
Seek thee out...
Second...
Determine whether ye be alive or dead.
And finally, if thou be'est alive...
Fetch thee come, and have audience with him..." He paused a moment, gazing deeply into her eyes, and saw not the spark
that dwelled within all those you had ANY sliver of hope, and LIFE,
within them. His brow furrowed, and then, just as directly and
unflinchingly as she had previously queried him, he asked of her...
"Be ye alive?

be ye DEAD?"

Neris listened to what the man behind her said, looking back at him as he gazed into her eyes, and for once, she put everything she felt into them. Pride in her daughter and in their code of honor.. Disappointment in her guild.. Betrayal.. Anger. Acceptance of her fate.. Sadness. She had been through things in the last small stretch of time that she had hoped to never experience. She had given up her daughter to an honorable enemy, because she couldn't trust her own kith and kin to not destroy her. She had lost her guild, her kingdom, her life, because she had chosen the only path available to her. She had been asked to pay a debt of honor; she could not refuse. Her daughter would be well taken care of, she knew. There was no way for her to regain control of her kingdom, and it was highly unlikely that she'd find any other Barnabians to lead. She hadn't the heart to change her religion; she'd followed the red god, the god of war and fire and glory, all her life. And though she regretted that none of her followers had agreed with her decisions, she regretted none of her actions. She had done what she had had to do. She considered what this Richard ManMeat had said to her. Assassin. She kept her eyes locked with his and spoke again, her voice not changing in its tone or strength from her previous acknowledgement of her identity. "I am dead." She trusted that he knew what she meant.

Many times before had ManMeat been denied the final act of an Assassin. But now, though this be a most sought after opportunity by ALL in his trade... an assassin...ALONE...with the ruler of heathen lands... he still began to feel ill. Lost her guild...
Lost her kingdom...
Lost her daughter...
What hath she left to live for?!?
No!!
Her daughter may yet be safe in the warm embrace of Agelique and
Inverness!!
YES!
If what knowledge I have, with regard to Rese, be acurate?
And I hath NO knowledge of the Great Dragon to ever be
mistaken...
Besides,
ALL in Inverness KNOW what respects MUST be paid
to the daughter of one so honorable...
No she hath not lost everyhting...
THIS woman before me, still hath a future...
And even when staring death in its' very face, still eminates with
honor so abundant that it could blind any that be open, and wise, enough
to see it... His thoughts continued thus as he, with trembling hand, slowly drew his
"brother" SLASH. But they still brought him no comfort, for he knew what he was
about to do...
His reaching far back and placing the tip of the slashing blade firmly
at the back of Neris's chair, nearest her heart, was the only thing that
stopped it's violent shaking...
His free hand gradually changed so that her entire face and body, which still remained
motionless, and the chair she was seated on was completely engulfed...
He was able to feel her steady heart beat rythmically as it pulsed
life throughout her...
He sensed her aura, more intensely now, and it was just as stronge and
noble, if not more so, than it was previously....
He was able to see, and feel, her calm breathing as he leaned his head
foreward so that his mouth touched her ear...
is safe."

Jetriot listens to the conversation between Neris and the Assasin. "I am dead"
No! Jetriot yells aloud dispersing the illusion of invisibility. Neris and
Richard turn to look at him, suprised at his presence.
Dont do this! You are not yet beyond hope! Where your people betrayed
you your enemies befriended you and acknowledged your honor. By showing
that you have great honor, intelligence, and goodness in your heart you
have attracted the eyes of many very powerful beings. Some which now
resent you and some who are impressed. LDG is one of the latter. I am
prepared to offer you a high ranking position in my guild if you swear
loyalty to Angelique. I know you have made a pact of honor with Barnabas
but realize allthough Barnabas has claimed honor he has shown nothing but
the opposite, theres proof of that in the civil war that is raging over
your lands. Do this not only for yourself but for your daughter, she
deserves a mother dont take that away from her. Even if you refuse my
offer, dont deny yourself life, meet with Telani mabey even the AGC
(Angelique Guild Coalition) . Whatever you do dont deny yourself life, you
are a great person capable of more then even you may realize. Life is a
gift too beautiful to forfeit without a fight. Jetriot speaks fast trying quickly to convince her and still make an
intelligent, persuasive, speech.
Alas it was all for nothing, he was to late. He watches as Richard's
sword slices through her body and leaves he without life. Jetriot lowers
his head in anguish, she would live on through her daughter. Perhaps her
daughter would show her mothers cunning and honor and use it for the glory
of Angelique. For now the once great guild of Dominion had fallen.

ManMeat slowly withdrew his blade from Neris's now lifeless body. Nary a drop of blood touched the floor, or could be seen to streak the shaft of the thin 4 foot blade, as he removed it. His own body which had encased her made absolutely sure of that. For in driving the blade through her, he had likewise driven it, with great pain, through himself. Thus plugging the death wound, and leaving a piece of himself with her. And that piece of him would be with her forever...and in more ways than one. He then eyed the intruder, and once again began to shake voilently. He then approached him with blinding speed... ManMeat had now drawn the blocking blade and placed it's razor sharp mid-plane firmly against the throat of this...interloper, whilest the tip of the slashing blade rested snugly beteween his second and third ribs. ManMeat once again, his eyes aslit and his nose touching the nose of another, spat words of venom... "YOU FOOL!!!!!!!!!"
Pressing the blades even harder, and threatening to draw blood...
"YOU HAVE DENIED NERIS THE DEATH THAT ONE SO
HONORABLE DESERVES!!!!!"
His sight nearly failed him so enraged was he... "HER LAST FEELING..."
"HER LAST EXPERIENCE..."
"TWAS NOT THE SATISFACTION OF THE KNOWELEDGE OF A LIFE WELL LIVED, AND
A GUILD WELL SERVED!!!!"
"NOT THE CALM OF A DEATH WELL MET!!!"
"NOR THE KNOWLEDGE THAT HER DAUGHTER IS SAFE!!!"
"BUT INSTEAD..."
"IT WAS A START!!!!!"
"A START CAUSED BY A FOOL!!!"
"A FOOL, WHO'S SKILL AT THE TRADE HE WAS SO CLEARLY BORN TO, HATH JUST
MOMENTS AGO, SHOWN ITSELF OVERFLOWING WITH THE ABUNDANCE THAT COULD ONLY
BE EXCEEDED, BUT JUST BARELY, BY THE HONOR AND DIGNITY OF THE ONE THAT NOW
LAY DEAD BEFORE US!!!!!!" He shouted at the top of his lungs, threatening to bring guards, nay
anyone within miles, scurrying to their leaders Keep, if there be any
still living... "PRAY THEE THANK ANGELUQUE THAT I SENSE THIS!!!"
"PRAY THEE THANK ANGELIQUE PROFUSELY FOR THIS FACT!!!" Fearing that the urge to kill one of his own faith...as he had killed
his own father those many years ago...would overwhelm him, he began to
slowly step away, unsteadly, toward the open window within Neris's
study...
With the tips of his blades pointing directly at
this...persons...eyes, ManMeat hissed, nearly inaudibly, so
intense was his rage...
"For as surely as I am an Assassin..."
"As my father before me..."
"And his father before him..."
"And ALL of my forefathers before them, within the Clan of
ManMeat, and for countless generations..."
"I shall hunt you down and ply my skill upon thee!!!"
"And I assure thee,"
"Upon THAT occassion...I will MORE than relish the
act!!!" With that ManMeat sheathed his blades and exploded out of the window...
a thin black tendrill was he, arcing high into the air as he
spooled himself out. With his tip now long disappeared beyond the
horizon, the end that remained joined the rest of him on his journey back
to Inverness and the temple (where he must assuredly pray, lest his anger
cause him to forsake Angelique) yielded a thunderous...
CRACK!!!!!
Fear not, for death by Assassin hands is
quick!!! [This message has been edited by Richard

Jetriot's eyes follow the one known as Manmeat as he leaves. If only he knew... Yet he is a bringer of death...
perhaps he does not realize what he has done. She could still have been
saved, yet I responded too late. I will keep an eye on that fellow, he
cannot be trusted.
Jetriot takes a last look upon the body of Nerris.
I appologize if I made your death any less honorable
then it should have been. You should know that you were a a martyr a hero
even and the story of your greatness will be told by many , including my
people, for many years to come.
Jetriot lowers himself to one knee and bows to the the great leader.
Guards!
Jetriot stands and waves his hand in the air making himself invisable
once again. Guards rush in and jetriot walks past them, unseen.

*ooc* Jetriot, it would have been nice if you had asked before you had interfered in such a great manner.. We had this planned out. *ic* As Neris sat dead in her chair, her eyes closed for the last time, forever, havoc ensues in her study. What should have been quiet, respectful, honorable, had been disrupted and robbed of its peace and beauty. It was a good thing that Neris had been more attentive to the feel of the blade as it pierced her body, the pressure of Richard ManMeat's body as he enveloped her chair and herself, the sound of ManMeat's voice as he whispered the only words she wished to hear, the sight of the flames on the altar burning brightly. The ever-present roar of the rebellion died to her and the intruder had gone unnoticed. How ironic it was that the guards who burst into her study (undoubtedly just a small group of those who had rebelled against her, since the patch that contained her family's crest and the symbol of The Dominion had been torn from their uniforms, leaving ragged holes) were shocked and dismayed to find her dead. They themselves had been seeking her death just moments before, and now, being greeted with it, they despair. The leader of the band gestured at three-fourths of the guards, instructing them to search the area for whoever it was that had struck down the leader, as it was obvious she had not done it with her own sword. He gestured at one of the few remaining and spoke quietly: "Find a messenger, send out the word: "Neris is dead." The man nodded once, the sharp movement of one raised in the military, and he ducked out the door. The captain turned back to her body, somehow remaining perfectly upright in her chair, her expression one of dignity and peace. He swallowed and moved out the door. "Let's wait out here." Seren awoke early this morning, he felt regenerated, yet there was much work to be done. Leaving his guild and the faith of Barnabas behind him, his rage had softened. He had left his old keep behind, taking only a few devoted followers with him. The last week has been horror, denouncing his faith led to a revolt within his kingdom walls, and nearly led to his assanation. This morning would be different, he had pledged his devotion to Angelique, and was eager to start building upon his new land. He turned to Rysahl, his second in command, and spoke. " Rysahl, we are extremely vulnerable now, we must work hard to fortify
our armies, and strengthen our kingdoms borders. "Messenger!" A tiny brownie scurries into the room. " Yes mi'lord." replies the brownie. " I need you to deliver a message to the leaders of Inverness, Telani in particular. " The brownie takes out a parchment and begins to write as Lord Seren speaks. " Telani, I thank thee for sparing thy kingdom as well as thy life. However,I again write to thou in need of aid. Thy am in need of the strength of allies, and would be honored if thou would consider me as one of your own. I will send a formal scroll of my kingdom's make-up. " The brownie finishes the parchment and hurries out of the room. |

Telani stood at the center of the field. Fewer and fewer messages had passed this way over the past days. There had been little injured go by, and no further attempt at contact. "Is there nobody left to step forward and speak
for the Dominion?" mused Telani.
At the last, a single messenger came forward.
"All who fly the flag of Dominion that we have come
to know have either been destroyed, fled, or have declared another
allegiance. There is but one realm remaining that flies not their present
banner, but an ancient one of similar design."
"Besiege that last castle, but hold off should they
ask for mercy. As for the rest, there is no longer a Dominion to be at war
with. It is done."
As the messenger departed, a mist flowed into the small valley...now a
part of Inverness. The stone table and chairs, the tents, the markings of
a field command, all were swallowed up in a wall of white.
When the morning breeze came again and washed the mists away, the field
lay empty again, save for a single stone marker. The menhir held the
emblem of Inverness, the emblem of Dominion, and a single inscription.
"In memory of a lady of unequaled honor.
Neris"
