¤ State Abandoned Property Office
If it had value in it and is lost long enough (as little as a few years and as long as 100 years, depending on state law) it ends up with the state.  Many let you search on-line.

¤ Financial Institutions
Many banks and credit card companies offer life insurance coverage as a benefit- sometimes free.  Since these are often group policies you need to contact them directly.  This link provides a worksheet to assist in contacting them.

¤ Associations
Many professional associations and clubs or other membership organizations offer life insurance coverage as a benefit.  Since these are also often group policies you need to contact them directly.  This link provides a worksheet to assist in contacting them.

¤ Holocaust Victims
Holocaust victims are a special category of lost insurance policies.  The best way to start to search for these lost European issued policies is to contact the New York Holocaust Claims Processing Office using the above link.  They have special claim forms and instructions.  They will then forward your claim for you to the member companies of the International Commission.  You can also visit the website of the International Commission on Holocaust Era Insurance Claims to view a partial list of known policyholders and to read about other efforts to return property looted by the Nazis.
