The images are Animated gifs of the face on Mars from different angles. The top image is from the global surveyor half view. Note the round "right eye" which keeps its' shape from different angles. Directly below is the full face from two different Viking shots.
The above image is the Aerobraking image and the April 2001 "face-on-Mars image. Note the extreme variation in Data in these two views
