"…For eighty-five years, from 1831 to 1916, the Missing Friends advertisements in the Boston Pilot, the city's major Irish newspaper, helped bring immigrants and kin together. We do not know how successful these searches were. We do know from these ads, however, the Irish place origins and often the names of relatives in Ireland, for probably 50,000 nineteenth century immigrants. They left England about 20 years ago, for Philaelphia, and have not been heard from for the last fourteen years. JULIA BRENNAN (maiden name) landed in Boston, last Good Friday, in search of them.
