Chapter One *How Could You?*

It has been a few hours since they had found out Taylor had committed suicide. They hadn’t uttered a word. They just sat there staring at a blank television screen. Then someone rang April’s doorbell. Her mother got it and told whoever it was that they were downstairs. April and Monique just sat their rocking back and forth with tears running down their blank faces as someone opened the door. It was April’s friend Sara and her boyfriend Mike. They had heard about the death and came to see if April was OK. Sara went and sat down next to April and put her arm around her shoulder.

“Apes its gonna be OK. You don’t know the kind of stress he was going through. April come on talk to me. You can’t just sit here and not talk. It isn’t healthily.” Sara started crying herself. She didn’t want to see her best friend in this much pain. April couldn’t go for like a minute without talking. Everyone knew that something had to be done. Monique and April had to talk again or at least move. Nobody knew what to do. April’s mother had just called Monique’s mother and told her to come over immediately.

“What are we going to do?” April’s mother said when she opened the door for Monique’s mom. Both of the parents walked down the stairs to see if the girls were OK. Sara and Mike had left to go and see if Alyssa and Evelyn (two other Hanson fans) were fine.

“Monique come on talk.” Her mother said to her. It had been almost five hours since the news that he had died. It had been five hours since the two of them had even moved. Aprils’s screen saver on her computer had just flashed a picture of all of them performing with smiles on their faces. Suddenly April got off of her bed and went to her computer and started typing out her Taylor column for her newsletter. It seemed as if she didn’t want to believe he was really gone. Maybe deep down inside of her she knew that he was gone, but she was just pretending that he was still alive to hide her pain. Both of the girls’ parents left them alone for awhile Maybe that would make them talk if nobody else was around.

“April what are you doing? Taylor is gone. How can you do a column on a person that has committed suicide today? Also today of all days Hanson Day. Why did he have to do it? What made him want to die?” Monique fell back onto April’s bed and cried her eyes out once again. April hadn’t said a word but just typed. Writing always helped her when she was feeling awful. This is what showed up on her computer screen under the Taylor Hanson column of her newsletter:

“With You In Your Dreams If I’m gone when you wake up

Please don’t cry

If I’m gone when you wake up

Its not good-bye

Don’t look back at this time

As a time of heartbreak and distress

Remember me Remember me

Cause I’ll be with you in your

Dreams....

Yes everyone he is gone. Jordan Taylor Hanson committed suicide today at 4:30 PM. Today of all days its Hanson Day. I know questions are flowing through everyone’s mind. Like why did he have to go? What made him do it? Well I don’t know either, but everyone lets just stay together and pray. Pray that everything will be OK. That our lives will once again be normal. Lets always remember Taylor. He was a great person, a great brother, a great musician. Nobody knows why things like this happen. Maybe it was meant to be. It was just his time. It might be hard but lets just remember the Taylor we knew and love. Now I sound like a priest or something. Well I guess that is how I am feeling right now. Well I don’t know if Hanson High will continue. I want to so it will be here for people when they need a helping hand. Just don’t let Hanson fade because Taylor is gone. All of the fans have to get together and help each other out. Well peace out and.....REST IN PEACE JORDAN TAYLOR HANSON..........”
