Chapter Eleven ~The man at the ATM Machine~

It was almost fifteen minutes to seven when they made their way to the loby of the Tulsa Place Hotel. Mariah, her mother (Christine), and a few girls their age were already waiting. Mariah’s friends didn’t even speak to them before so April, Amy, and Monique wanted to get to know them at least their names. Everyone started to go out. Since none of them were from Tulsa or even Oklahoma for that matter they decided to take a walk and find some place. The girls found out that Mariah’s friends names were Erin and Desire’e. They were sisters. Erin was the oldest at 14 and Desire’e was 12. Everyone bonded immediately. They started chatting about Hanson and concerts. It seemed that while they were getting to know them they forgot about Taylor’s death. It was about quarter past seven when they found a little Italian restraunt to eat at. Christine and Ann (April’s mother) sat at a small booth and started talking. The six girls sat at a bigger table a few tables down from them. A waiteress came and took their order leaving bread and water in her place.

“April I saw an ATM machine a few stores down can you please go and get me thirty dollars?” Ann said to her daughter. April nodded her head and took the ATM card from her mother and leaving for the store. April walked about five minutes to a store with a sign outside that read “ATM machine inside.” She opened the door and to the cashier.

“Can I help you?” A young guy about April’s age asked.

“Yeah where is your ATM machine?”

“In the back of the store. Just walk down that aisle and you’ll see it.” He smiled.

“Thank you very much.” She said as she walked away. She saw the machine, but there was a kid standing there using it.

“Stupid machine. I can never get them to work.” The kid said aloud. April heard him say that and tapped him on the shoulder. He turned and looked down at her. Where have I seen this face before? April thought to herself. “Can I help you?”

“Umm well I heard you having trouble with the machine. Do you want me to help?”

“Well I can’t give out my account number, but I guess you can tell me how to work it and stuff.” He said. His face looked so familiar. Finally it hit her who this person was.

“Ok. Hey aren’t you Isaac Hanson?” She said. She didn’t want to sound like some crazed fan. April sounded like a curious person.

“It depends on if its a good or a bad thing?” He joked. April was wondering how he could make a joke when he just buried his brother less than two hours ago. Even why he was standing in a corner store getting cash.

“Its a good thing. I’m a fan. Hey I’m I’m I’m sorry about your brother.” She fought back tears and looked at the ground so he wouldn’t see her cry. Isaac looked down also.

“Thank you very much. I miss him a lot. Well, I’m sorry to say this but can you help me. My parents don’t know that I’m gone.” April wipped her eyes and showed him where to push and stuff. Isaac got the money out of the machine and stepped to the side. She thought that he had left but he was standing in the aisle. April had started to cry very heavily. She thought that she was alone but then she felt a hand on her shoulder. Quickly she turned to find him still standing there. She tried wipping her eyes but the tears wouldn’t stop flowing. “I didn’t catch your name or even thank you.” He said to her.

“Oh my name is April-May Hogan, but everyone just calls me April. You don’t have to thank me. I’m just a helpful person.” She said trying to at least smile. He handed her a tissue. “Thank you. Well, my mother and the group that I’m with will probably be getting worried about me. We aren’t from here and stuff. She probably thinks I got lost. Again I’m really sorry Isaac.” April started to leave but Ike but his hand again on her shoulder.

“Where are you from?”

“Boston, Massachusetts. We’re leaving tomorrow though. I just can’t believe he is gone?” She said. April then fell into Isaac’s arms. She didn’t even know him. He just put his arms around her and cried. A bond had been made between two strangers at an ATM machine. Fan and star had become equals. After about five minutes of crying they both let go of each other.

“April its going to be ok. Taylor is in an even better place now. Where he is happy. I know he doesn’t want his fans crying. I don’t want you to cry. Please don’t cry.” He looked down at her. His eyes meeting her eyes. Her whole body was shaking. She never noticed that Isaac had beautiful eyes.

“I know but its so sudden. I really have to go now. My food is probably getting cold. Isaac it was nice meeting you. Please don’t forget that your fans will always be beside you and Zac. ALWAYS. Just don’t stop the music. Maybe um we can keep in touch or something?” She said knowing the answer was going to be no. They, Hanson, always said that they met some of their closest friends by meeting fans. So hey its worth the try.

“Well I guess so. Do you have a piece of paper?” He asked. She nodded remembering that she put a small notebook in her pocket to write down Mariah’s phone number and address. April handed Isaac the notebook. “So whats your number and address?” He asked her.

“Here let me write it down.” She said. He handed her back the notebook and she wrote down her name, telephone number, home address, and E-mail address. “There you go. It was nice meeting you. Take care and keep it touch.”

“OK I’ll call you as soon as I get the time. It was nice meeting you April.” He said. They both walked out of the store and he turned left while she turned right. April couldn’t believe what had just happened. Isaac Hanson had held her in his arms while they both cried. He even had her information. She decided not to tell the others what just happened.

“They wouldn’t even believe me.” She said outloud.
